Ok, Im going to the orthodontist in September. I dont really know what to expect. Will it hurt? What will they do? How long is it from the first visit until you actually get the braces? How long will I have braces (give me an idea please, i have like 3 teeth on the bottom that are a little cooked like they are just a tad out of place, and one of them kind of overlaps another one, and on the top, there is one, it is where I couldnt get a baby tooth out so the new tooth started coming in over it)????? Will this hurt? Tell me EVERYTHING I should expect please! Im just really nervous!!!!! Help!! I dont care if its harsh, as long as its true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the steps for braces
-spacers(rubberbands place around your back molars to create space for the brackets) You have to have them in for a week
-Braces,first they take the spacers out. Then they put your brackets in. This might hurt a little. Then they glue your brackets on. After that they glue little braces on each of your teeth. Then they thread the wire through.
-Teeth extractions, only for people with crowed teeth or something lke that.
-Headgear,for people with severe overbite or crossbite
3-4 years after all that stuff you're done
About maybe 2 weeks after your appointment you get braces. For me it was 6 months after my first appointment. Cause I wasn't ready for it yet. It doesn't really hurt. Just gets annoying sometimes. I would say from a scale from 1-10 it would be 4.
Hope this helps!

It's not that bad. During the process of having braces put on my teeth, the only real uncomfortable part was when they put the rings around my back molars. When they put the rest of the braces on, it doesn' t hurt at all, however the glue they use tastes real nasty, so keep your tongue out of the way!
I used to love going to the orthodontist, because I never experienced pain while I was there (unlike the regular dentist). The pain caused by tightening the braces was always felt after I left. When they tighten your braces, your teeth will ache for a few hours, or a day or so, but it's not that bad. You just won't be able to eat anything really hard like apples or raw carrots. Take a couple of advil and it will help.
As for how long it takes to have the braces put on, it depends on your orthodontist. They usually will break it up into two or three sessions.
Don't worry, it's far from the worst pain you will ever experience. Good luck!

I am an Orthodontist and can probably help you with this question. When you say that you have 3 teeth in the bottom, I am assuming that these are the once which are crowded and you have the remaining compliment of teeth. It is hard to guess how long will itakes from records to actual placement of brackets. It depends upon the volume of patients and how busy his/her practice is. The treatment time is harder to guess but generally it is any where between 18 - 30 months. You may notice slight crowding in the bottom but it is possible that there are other concerns.
Placing braces if fairly easy. The first step is to clean your teeth with a coarse material called pumice. The purpose is to clean your teeth. The next step is to etch and prime your teeth for bonding the brackets.
Bonding brackets is done in 2 ways. Majority of the orthodontist place the brackets directly on your teeth with blue and shine a blue light to make harden the glue. This is called direct bonding. The disadvantage with this technique, it takes long time and is hard to position the brackets just right.
Fewer Orthodontists (including myself) place brackets by Indirect bonding. In this technique the brackets are positioned on your models and transferred to a glue or plastic tray. Once your teeth are cleaned, cleaned, etched and primed, the entire tray is placed in your mouth and the glue is cured with blue light. This cuts down the placement time and also results in more precise bracket placement. Studies also show that Indirect bonding cuts down the total treatment time by 6 - 8 months. The disadvantage with this technique is that it is labor intensive and technique sensitive but once you do it cople of times, it's a piece of cake.
Once your brackets are placed, a very light wire called Nitinol is placed. And then you can walk out. Hope that helps

Okay.....i have had braces too...like for about a year now....and i just got my bottom braces, i have had my top before i got my bottoms.. The bottoms hurt REALLY bad when you get them on and it feels like they are going to fall out of your mouth! (no joke!) anyway....it depends if ur gettin them (tops & bottoms) at the same time or set apart. I got my braces cause my teeth are crowded...but even though i still have my braces on they are pretty straight. I need like 2 more years with them on...u will probably need the same time.Well, when u go to the orthodontist, they are going to take x-rays and they will take a form of ur teeth. I think u get to choose a flavor. Anyway, they are gonna put some gel type stuff in ur mouth and then they are gonna have a metal thing they are gonna put up against your mouth for about a minute. it dosent hurt. then depending on how bad ur teeth are they will schedule an appointment after that.if your teeth are they may have to get customized braces like i did and that delays the time. thats bascilay it! good luck!

Don't worry about it. Only your orthodontist can determine how long your braces will need to remain on. Just be sure to follow all of his or her suggestions. That will reduce the time they need to be on. Your teeth may be slightly sensitive after adjustments and the initial placement of the braces for a few days. Be sure to eat softer food like soup, jello, etc. In no time you will adjust to your new braces. Time will pass quickly.

how long until you get braces depends on your othodontist. i did everything all in one day. it wont hurt. the process takes time and your teeth will move in a steady pace. so dont expect a lot of pain when tightening.
but when you get your braces. thats when youll be in a lot of pain./ >.<
