I constantly see Christians (mainly) trying to convince athiests that God exists and saying they just need faith or that they are stupid for not believing (that's helpful). Then I see athiests telling those with religious beliefs that they are stupid.

Can't the Christians realize that NO ONE is going to believe in the spiritual if they have never experienced it? To ask them to do so is illogical.

Can't the athiests realize that the spiritual can't be proven with the physical, and that many of us believe in the spiritual because of personal experience? Telling us it does not exist, and that we should accept your experience over our own, is illogical.

So isn't this constant bickering on both sides useless?

I have to agree with you, the constant bickering is useless. I think if most people would sit back and take a deep breathe they would see that none of it helps.
I enjoy hearing different perspectives. I do not enjoy being told I am an idiot or I am going to hell.

Not really.

I bet you I can provide a scientific explanation for ANY "spiritual" experience anyone has ever had. Coincidence is an amazing thing....but it certainly doesnt prove the existence of God. JOan of Arc is now beleived to have been a Schizophrenic...so, she wasnt speaking with God - she was hearing voices! But in her mind, it was enough to cause her to join armies and fight off the English.....

So, is it useless to point out the obvious (or occassionally inobvious) to those that cannot see it? I think not.

It probably is over the Internet. I can't imagine too many atheists participating in some argument over the Net then deciding to come to Christ, or vice versa. Most of the time these sorts of conversions (one way or another) come with the advice of others the person knows very well, which you aren't going to know after an 8 post argument, or even discussion. Still, if someone feels that putting another down for what they believe can get them through the day that's their perogative.

It maybe be futile but it's life. To some very religious people it would seem negligent not to at least try to save their unbelieving neighbors. Similarly if someone tells you your going to burn because you think differently it's hard to take that lying down.

Historically this is a battle that will always be fought because of the strength of conviction felt by both sides.

It is perhaps useless in terms of logic.

But personal testimony is not useless. Personal testimony may not convince anyone else of anything, but still we Christians are obligated to testify. Spread the word, as it were.

People may not believe in the spiritual if they have never experienced it, but if they keep hearing other people say that THEY have experienced it, what this could do is spur the unbeliever to seek. Personal testimony can incite the search in others.

And it is certain, then, that if one seeks, one shall find.

I'm generally too busy answering questions to worry about what the atheists and naturalists are saying. This is a religion and spirituality forum not an atheism and naturalism forum.

I agree, people are going to believe what they believe no matter what. Arguing about it is pointless. I think there would be more exceptance if people did not shove their certain beliefs down others throats. And that goes for all religions.

Atheists are just trying to fight the Christians desire too impose a theocracy on free citizens. I can't see how this is useless even if they get their methods wrong sometimes.
