If you're referring to the military, then yes. There's alot of jobs in the military that women aren't qualified to do. They already have much much lower PT standards than a male soldier does. When this is upgraded and things become equal, then women can try out for some of the tougher positions. There really are things that women can't do in the military even if they want to.

If you mean choosing jobs in general, then thank heaven nobody consulted you on the matter, otherwise we'd be headed right back for the Dark Ages.

If you mean choosing jobs in the military, I'll quote one of my favorite fictional characters. "Those without swords can still die upon them." In this day and age, war is not something that happens way off somewhere and leaves all the fair damsels safe at home. The bad guys aren't part of a regular army that follows any kind of rules of war; they are an irregular force that fights dirty. As we've seen in the past, non-combat personnel are in just as much danger from terrorists as combat personnel. No one is safe anymore, male or female, combat or not. If a woman WANTS to do a job, is QUALIFIED to do a job, and is ABLE to do a job, then I say let her!

I am a female Marine. It would be silly to think I am as physically strong as my male peers. Very few women would be able to handle a lot of what the infantry does. A man naturally will try to protect a woman in a time of combat, a lot of women will be more of dead weight on the men. I can picture an average female having an emotional breakdown with rounds coming down range. I don't doubt many females can (and have) done heroic things in a time of war... I would say these females would have to be screened a lot more than the men... I have met women with a lot of heart that I would trust with my life...but lets leave the front lines to the men for now and avoid the distractions... this is not to say that I wouldn't give my life for my country... and for the Marine to the left and the right of me....

Normally, no. I´m not sure why you put this on the military posting area. If you are talking about combat jobs, then that is a different matter. As painful as it is to go through the process of desegregating the force, it should be done, if the women want to be in the line of fire, they should be able to, but they should follow the same physical guidelines as the men. In other words, allow the women to choose but do not endanger the force as a result of it. If we are to say to our kids that they can be anything they want to be, well, the answer is obvious.

Yes. As a former Army Infantryman, I can tell you it is a very physically demanading thing. I'm not saying that women can't be physically up to the challenge, I'm just saying that women aren't biologically built to hump an 80 lbs ruck and march 18 miles. Plus spending a couple of weeks in the field without a shower, there are a few things that make hygene harder for a woman than a man. The Israelis tried women in frontline combat but it was a failure due to things such as these and you can't fight instinctual nature. Men were driving by instinct to protect their women comrades over the men. However, to support women in other roles, as a fighter pilot women are in someways better than men for that. They are usually shorter and their bodies are built for childbirth which requires subtle differences in how the blood flows through the body. The differences cause women to handle G loads better than men. Some women will probably call me sexist but I'm not. Fact is indifferent.

depends on what you mean by restriction. if you mean infantry, then yes i think they should. women should not be in the infantry for a couple reasons but the main reason is that the enemy will take much longer to surrender if women are in the infantry, their pride would not let them because they would be "beaten by a girl" which most men cant stand. this has been proven in history. now do i think that women are capable of being in the infantry, of course, they could do very well maybe even better than some of the men. but i prefer if we must go to war that the enemy surrender faster to save lives.

Yes there should.

The military exists to defend our national interests. They are supposed to kill people and break things.

The military is NOT a social experiment and does not have "equality" as a goal. The military has one job and that is to win wars. If the presence of women enhances the ability to win wars, then by all means welcome aboard. If the presence of women decreases the ability to win, then sorry ladies.

In order to allow women into the combat arms, you would have to reduce the standards. This has happened in fire departments and police departments across America whenever women were recruited. There are plenty of combat support and combat service support jobs available.

Drea got it right.

Semper Fi kid.

It should be based on qualifications. There may be limitations, but that could apply to men too. Would a 98 lb man be better qualified for a job requiring heavy lifting than a 150 lb woman in good shape? I don't think so.

Yes!!! Although there are some hard corps women there are also the little pansies that think they are hard corps... if they were aloud to have infinitry jobs I'm sure there would be a decline in the amout of males enlisting in those jobs...
