How would you pass this law: Anyone at retirement age til death should take a yearly drivers test to be sure you are able to be out on the road without any disabilities? Such as partial blindness.

Sorry, that would fall afoul of anti-age discrimination legislation.

The Grey Panthers contribute more money to more political candidates and the vote more religiously and recruit to support candidates than you do.

Forget it.

Actually, drivers from 50 to about 70 are the safest ones on the road.

Here in Britain driving capacity is reviewed at 72 and regularly thereafter. My French license is valid forever, but not usable in Britain once I'm 72. If I get that far. But since I'm going to retire to yet a third country that doesn't matter.

It all depends on what state you live in. Then there are processing fees, in which you need someone to back you. (that is for here in california).

Here is my personal note.

That would be a law that would not pass, due to many who do vote and place politicians in office are those who are retired. Sadly young people dont vote. As for the Law, the politicians would not want to disrupt the lives of those who give them power. THEN you would have the ACLU breathing down your neck cause of age discrimination. The law would be overturned if by some miricle you did get it pasted. Sorry to say.

Could be unfair. Legislators would want to see proof that this was a major cause of road accidents. People are already, by law, required to ensure that they have no disabilities when they drive so why target the old? If it is shown that they are a more accident prone group then you may have a point but I think that you will find that most accidents are caused by those up to the age of 25.

Well may be difficult, depends on the accident figures to back it up.

Some elderly drivers are terrible..

Elderly driver would say 'Been drive 60 years, never had an accident, seen plenty though' that's because they never tend to crash its usually the frustrated drive stuck behind them or taking evasive manoeuvres who hits the other car and they tootle on lol!!!

So until a law is passed stay patient and keep your distance!

Statistically, 16-25 year olds are the worst drivers. You gonna test them, too?

If you have specific concerns or comments, consider contacting the (DMV) Department of Motor Vehicles. Remember, you will be elderly someday too.
