Call the fire department. They won't mind. They would rather come out on a nothing call like that, than pick up dead bodies. I did the same thing and they said it was not a problem.

That's the problem with carbon monoxide detectors. If they go off and everything seems fine, you don't know what to do. With a smoke alarm you can tell if it's a false alarm.
I say call the FD and they'll come over and check things out to be safe. You never know. You may have a problem and feel fine for now.
Better safe than sorry. If they Say everything's ok, go buy a new one and not the same brand.

Smoking does produce Carbon Monoxide. Have you lived in the house long? If so there may be high concentrations of it in random places in your house. Also never hesitate to call the Fire Department if you are in doubt. It can't hurt to have them check it out. Get them to inspect your detector, as it may be faulty. But if you think that this IS NOT the case, do contact the Fire Department as you may have a more serious problem. Good Luck

If it actually keeps going off like you are saying you may actually have a carbon monoxide leak. It is one thing for it to just go off every once in a while but if it is going of like you describe it sounds like it is doing it's job. I would call the fire department and just see what they say.

There may be trace amounts of CO setting off your detector?
Your bird, depending on its size, might be the first animal of the household to react to carbon monoxide - but we're not exactly talking about a pigeon in a mine shaft here. The device is either malfunctioning, or there is CO in your home.

Try getting a new one and see if that one goes off too.
Frankly, I'd be on the safe side and get it checked. Carbon monoxide is nothing to play around with. If your furnace or air conditioning system is acting up, it could literally be the death of you. :|

Others have answered well. I just want to mention that your air conditioner doesn't give off carbon monoxide. Only things with flame (gas stove, gas dryer, gas water heater, gas furnace)
