Evidently the guy is a jerk! If he ever came in again, I would spill water on him!

Never mind tipping, most are exempt from even paying!! It seems the more money you make(or wealthier you are) the less you actually have to buy. I'm sure the "fame" plays into it as well. They are so outta touch with reality its not funny. The last time this guy prob had to pay a tip was with his mama, when he was like 12, and back then 75cents wasn't too bad perhaps?
All that being said I love football, but some of the things these players do are outrageous. All pro sports really, well maybe not ice hockey, those guys and maybe golfers. Go Bucs!

NFL players are regular people who play a game and somehow get in the spotlight. I've never heard of this player so I'd guess he is making not much more than the league minimum - which is still enough for him to leave a damned better tip than that! Nobody is exempt from that sort of thing, he is just a cheap jerkoff especially after they made special arrangements to cook his food after the kitchen closed. If there is ever a next time I think I'd refuse his service.

Okay regardless of being a sports star or not, it is never okay to not tip someone. I was a server for 10 years! I've worked out of the Boston area and had many a red sox player, and even patriot players come in and eat.
Most leave over 20%, but I'd be happy with 20% anyway. I did have one Red Sox player who ran me around ragged, and left me 15%. I KNOW they make millions a year...so I don't know why they don't throw you a few bucks!
That player was inconsiderate and your Mom definitely deserved over 20%!!!!

I think it is a low salary player type of thing. My sister waited on Alex Acker and Amir Johnson of the Detroit Pistons and together they left a 6 dollar tip off of a 110 dollar bill. But when she waited on Derrick Coleman, former NBA star, he left her a 100 dollar tip. I think the league minimum players are just immature still and may think they are just better than a person serving them. I don't have a lot of money, but I know serving is tough and I've done it before, so I usually leave a 25% tip and my rule is if the bill is under 10 dollars, I leave a 5 dollar tip. They took their time to wait on me properly I think it is well deserved.

What a dirtball. I had a buddy eat at a table right next to Reggie White, right after he became a Packer and Reggie tipped the waitress quite well. 3 or bills stacked the top being a $20, so not all NFL players are dirtbags.

OMG Do i know what you're talking about! I worked in nightclubs for 7 years and saw all the football guys come in from time to time. At first I was like WOW! Then when one came up to me and put out his hand for me to shake, he pulled it away as i reached out and told me to f*ck off. Then the whole team laughed. I felt like sh*t. On another occassion the same team came in and one wasn't wearing a shirt so security wouldn't let him come in.He barged through, stole a shirt of one of the bar guys and then jumped on a table and kicked off the glasses. Such a tosser! All this happened just before we were about to close. There has not been one positive instance with any of these footy wankers and I have a few other stories of sneaking 16 year olds in and having sex with them. Revolting pigs. The have god complexes and should not be idolised. I feel better now i've vented! LOL

180k for 3 years...Hmm, he's probably mad about that low azz salary so he goes around tipping real small change everywhere to save his money. Now, in my hometown, one of the Jacksonville Jaguar players (one of the original Jaguars who's making lots of money) dined at Hooters one evening. He wore a platinum and diamond bracelet and cross but yet tipped the girl only $5. Now I've seen regular customers give those girls $20 tips before, I don't know what his excuse was. I guess they just some stingy bastards!

I know nothing about the sport or the person but if he is a nobody then he has to feel like a big man somehow. He sure showed your mother how big and important he really is by making her look small and insignificant.
What a man!
Nikki below me, were they league or AFL players? You have to name names, or at least the team, cos I've got plenty of really bad stories of footy players in nightclubs and want to know if it's the same bunch of tossers!!!!

Well, it's not just NFL players. I attended a conference in New Orleans (this was pre-Katrina, in early 2004) and went out with a local friend for dinner and drinks. Of course, we went to bars that he frequents and where he knew the bartenders, one of whom talked about Jim Belushi, who had acquired quite a rep for the dine 'n' dash - eating and fleeing without paying the bill.
I'm sure plenty of waiters and waitresses in N.Y., L.A., Miami, Chicago and other tourist destinations and sports cities can tell a story similiar to (or even worse than) your mother's. No, it's not acceptable (but then you knew this already, didn't you?), but it happens.
The next time he visits and sits in her section, she shouldn't bother knocking herself out for his ungrateful a**.

It's not okay for ANYONE not to tip. And the more demanding and self-important you are towards the server, the higher the percentage should be. Some people need a serious reality check!
