Let's say the entire sky changed to look like a giant face and a huge booming face said "I am your God... believe in me or perish"
I sure as hell would convert instantly.
Yet he does not do this. Supposedly he loves us and wants us to find him... but is unwillingly to do anything to prove his existance. He would rather attempt to see if we can find him on our own and if we can't... he says TO HELL WITH THEM..... that's not a sign of love.
Let's put it this way, if you had all the power in the universe and to save millions and millions of people from an eternity in hell, all you had to do was take 10 seconds and become a huge booming face in the sky and shout to the entire world you were God, would you not do this?

Sparkling G... if that's true, it's time for another one.... what's wrong with one booming face in the sky every day? Time means nothing to him... he could do it every day if he wanted right?

That's just the way God is, getting enjoyment out of torturing billions of people without mercy for all eternity. Sure, on earth we would classify anyone with those tendencies as a deeply sick deranged psychotic monster, but for God it's ok. Isn't God wonderful.

In the end, God gives every person what they want.
Christians who love Him and follow Him, wanting to be with Him will end up in Heaven with Him!
People who hate Him, ignore His Word, pretend that He doesn't exist obviously don't want anything to do with him. God will put them in a place that He isn't- Hell.
Because they don't want Him, so be it!
And, to answer your question, God HAS shown signs as to His existance, but people didn't believe Him back then, why should they now? And even when some believed Him, a lot have fallen away. God sent His own Son down here and people didn't believe him!
You HONESTLY think that if there was some big face and booming voice in the sky that you'd convert?
I'm sure that all those scientificly correct athiests and such would come up with a "reasonable explanation" as to the "cloud shiftings" in our upper atmhosphere and how there was a great thunder and all that junk.
As for the booming voice: "For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD, and there is no other." Isaiah 45:18
In the end, I do believe the key answer to your question is this: Faith.

Let's say a technological advance, here or somewhere else, allows someone to change the sky into a giant face and boom "I am your God..." etc. In other words, that might not be God at all. Every possible form of evidence for God has been shown to leave room for doubt. But there can be evidence against certain ideas of God, and the damning God of the Judeo-Christian sects is one such idea that has long been shown false. You have simply struck on the incompatibility between infinite loving mercy and eternal damnation from the same being.

You know it's a fair question. You want a sign that God truly is. Let me tell you something that's interesting: in the bible there is a parable about a rich man who died and went to hell. He was in torment, and looked across at the wide chasm that separated him from Abraham's bosom, where a very poor man had also died, but was being comforted. The rich man begged Abraham to send someone to warn his family about the torture he was facing, for not believing. Abraham said, if they did not believe the prophets, they would not believe even someone come back from the dead.
God's word says, "all of creation speaks of the existence of God, that no man has excuse". The bible has been around for a very long time. If a person refuses to believe these things, even a face in the sky would not convince them.

When the wind blows do you question its existence? Why question God's? If you are able to really connect with God and have a close walk with him, he will reveal himself in subtle ways. He shouldn't have to make the sky turn into his face, he could, but he doesn't. God gives you a decision, you believe in him or not, you sin willingly or not. Does any other god show his/her face to where there's not a doubt in any mind of their existence? No. But he gives you a chance, he's not going to send you to hell you do that by the decisions you make. He gives you a chance to know him. It's all up to YOU. He proves himself to me every single day! I will pray he reveals himself to you in a way that will open your eyes whether it be a financial need being met or whatever your circumstance. And don't think that someone dying is a bad sign either. God does not kill, maybe it was their time and something drastic would have happened. Maybe that was the only chance they would have went to heaven. They could backslide and be on their way to hell if they died at a time God did not call them.

He did give us undeniable proof of his existence, and yet people still deny.
He sent his son, who was sinless, to walk the earth and then to be crucified in order to save us from sin.
God gives unmistakable evidence, but people still believe themselves over God.
If the entire sky changed to look like a giant face, and a huge booming face said, "I am your God...believe in me or perish," not all would believe. In fact, I would bet both of my arms that someone would set to work immediately trying to prove how the incident was a phenomenon resulting from an aurora borealis-type effect mixed with sound waves from Neptune that just so happened to mimic language.
Of course, if this booming face spoke in Coptic or something, very few could understand it anyway, and there would be a massive debate over the true translation ... and people would be saying that since it had to be translated, it couldn't possibly have any integrity or be true in some other language.
You see, God gives. People distort. Such is the way of things.
Hell, as I understand it, is a place where people essentially choose to go by believing in themselves and not in God. God gives us the choice to be saved from hell, and yet people still opt to be faithless and live outside of the grace of God. Is it not love to allow one to choose? I believe that it is.

How many signs do you need? If you take time to read the Bible you will see that throughout the history of the Hebrew people He have countless signs of proof. The Lord God even sent His Son to Earth to pay for our sins. God has already hit everone in the head with a spiritual brick so to speak and many people are still too dense to get it. What did Christ Jesus say? " I AM the truth, the light and the way. No one gets unto the Father but by Me." How much more clear does God have to be with you? Read His book. It is called the Bible. He has been pretty clear if you ask me. He has given us more proof than we deserve and you want more? He came here and people refused Him and killed him. And you think showing His face in the sky will be any better? As far as sending you to Hell, you do that to yourself. No person is perfect. ALL have sin in their life. You condem youself by refusing to accept His Son who died for your sins, who paid the penalty for your sins. " The wages of sin is death." Read John in the Bible and then after that try reading Matthew. Hey it couldn't hurt. Right? God has given us so many sign and prophets and miracles it isn't even funny, and the greatest of all, He gave us all His Son. It doesn't get any better than that.

It really depends on what type of God you believe in. The one I believe in does not send anyone to hell simply because you do not beleive as others do on this planet. God does not need you to believe in him to exist, nor why would he prove himself to you or anyone else - that is why belief in God or any other divine presence requires faith. If there were proof - what faith would you need?
And if a "God" were to come out and says "believe in me or perish" - why would you want to believe in a God that gives you that kind of an ultimatum? That is not a loving or forgiving God, but a childish and immature God who does not deserve to be worshipped. If the God you believe in does not provide you with an uplifted spirit, unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness for being human, what good is that God?

People saw Jesus do many miracles, that they still did not believe. It's a matter of faith. You may choose to believe anything you want. But you have been told about Jesus.
You are breathiong, that is a sign that there is a GOD who made you. You are the best reason there is a creation.
Stay with me now.
I do not know you, but one reason that I know you exist is because of your writings. People can write about you, and I know you exist because of this.

Yes, but you can't do it too often. Half the fun of becoming a huge booming face in the sky is seeing how many people will wet themselves when they see you. If you do it too often, all the fun will be gone =(
