Your friend likely has a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Whether or not it's desirable to seek treatment depends on the extent to which it's affecting his/her life. Autism is a far more complex disorder and usually affects communication markedly; people don't develop autism later in life (the diagnosis usually comes around age 3 and the thought is that the child is born with it.)

I agree with what most other people have said with the fact that it it could be OCD, More than likely will be as Autism would of shown up before now , more than likely as a kid.

I think you should talk with him and advise him to go see a doctor, his local GP or someone with qualifications enough to determine wether he has OCD or anyother problems which could be causing him to act in the way he is doing. Only then will you know what is causing it and will it be able to be treated.

Take care and good luck x

I'd say it's OCD. (Obsessive Compulisve Disorder). When a person obsesses over a certain regime eg. lining up ornaments in height order. This person would feel upset if the ornaments weren't in the correct order. Sound familiar?

basically OCD can be a possibility but in most cases a person who likes to be organised will show the same signs it can sometimes be mistaken the only real way to find out is by a doctor anyother key sign would be if something was moved out of place OCD can be shown by
*very moody ie shouts, screams, gets angry
*instant response to move it back (not in a casual way)
*gets in a panic ie sweats

You are born with autism, you don't develop it. Maybe he's just a highly organized and regimented person. Some people are, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them.

Maybe OCD, he could just be a tidy freak! I can't get my fella pick up laundry count yourself lucky. Ask him what he feels will happen if things arent neat and tidy, you'll probably get a good idea of whats ging on in his head by his response. If it gets way out of hand ask him to seee his Gp.

It could border on Asperger's which is within the autism spectum. Nothing to worry about though. Nothing like 'sleeping with the enemy'.
