It is against policy for most departments for officers not to give their name, and or badge number. The SOP, standard operating procedure, for most departments, state that you should give your name when requested by a citizen. The only exceptions would be for drug enforcements officers or a situation where it would compromise the safety of the officers involved.

They dont have to come out and say "hi im officer friendly" without being solicited for the name. If asked they will answer because its no secret to who came. The call logs will have all the information. If they are in the middle of an emergency they might not have time to stop and give everyone who wants to know the information on the spot, or to people not involved in the complaint if its disruptive to the call.

it is my understanding that whether you are in Louisiana, and anywhere else in the free world not only will a police officer identify him/herself but do so willingly and with pride
and i also believe that if asked an officer must identify themselves
i find all services like this, (police, fire, ambulance, etc.) do so with a pride others should take notice of
it's a shame other people are not as proud of what they do as these people are
