Can you watch a dvd in a cd player? It's all about hardware. Where you put the cd in, while the drive is closed, look at the writing on it.
CompactDisc : Plays CDs
DVD Video : Plays DVDs
DVD Rom : Plays DVDs
there are lots more logos, which also include burning cds, dvds, etc, but basically if it says DVD anywhere, you can play a DVD, if it doesn't you cant. You need to buy another cd/dvd drive.
Many computers old enough to have a Pentium III dont come standard with this capability

If you have a DVD drive and not a software, you can buy various DVD player software or down load some basic DVD player software from Internet.
If you have both the drive and software, some DVD may be scratched, or burned in slightly different format. they simply wont play and you might get some type of 'read error'

If you mean it shows a blank DVD as not being inserted into the drive, this is normal. Use Nero to burn to a blank DVD.
I don't know what is going on if you insert a DVD with stuff already burned on it but cannot see it. Sorry.
Do you have a DVD player? CD players don't read DVDs.

its not the software, but the hardware. you need to have a DVD drive. You may only have a CD-ROM, which will read roms, not DVDS...might be time for an upgrade

are these burned dvds? because they might not have been burned correctly. windows media player should read normal dvds. you might want to try updating your version of the player.
