I was sick approx. 4 weeks ago and my dr. put me on an acceptable antibiotic since I am nursing my 3 month old. The antibiotic decreased my milk production along with the fact that I could not eat or drink anything for 2-3 days. Near the end of my medication my milk production picked up again. However, it has decreased once again. About 5 hours after I drop the baby off at daycare I normally get 5 to 7 ounces of milk, but now I am only getting 1 to 2 ounces. Please give me some advice. Thanks.

PUMP PUMP PUMP. The more you pump the more you make, you need to pump every hour.

Can you take a "nursing vacation" this coming weekend? Spend 2 days doing NOTHING but caring for yourself and nursing or pumping? This can help to boost supply.

The BEST way to boost supply is always to nurse and/or pump more often. Pumping more often is more likely to boost supply than pumping longer. Consider adding on 5 mins to the end of your pumping sessions after the milk stops flowing, but no more than that. Never pump more than 20 mins at a time. When the flow slows or stops, remove the horns and slightly reposition them on your breasts to see if you can get another letdown and empty different milk ducts.

You might consider a galactagogue if increasing pumping and nursing doesn't seem to do the trick.

Fenugreek is the most commonly used herb for boosting supply. They typical dosage is 3-4 capsules 3x per day. You will smell like maple syrup if you are taking enough.

DO NOT take fenugreek if you have a peanut allergy, are diabetic, have heart problems, have hypoglycemia, asthma or blood pressure problems.

Check out the links below for really good info on boosting your supply.

EDITED TO ADD:
You DO NOT need to drink milk to make milk. You do need to stay hydrated though. Odds are good you may have gotten dehydrated while sick, so upping your fluid intake could help. I'd suggest water. DO NOT force fluids, but instead drink to thirst. If you begin to feel thirsty, then you are already becoming dehydrated.

Drink, Drink, Drink, the more water you consume the more milk you will produce. Also since you are at work the more the pump the more you with get, I know, but really the more your baby nurses or the more you pump the more you body with make milk it is kinda like supply and demand. So even when you are home with the baby try pumping between feedings this will build your supply up. If you are having trouble getting you milk to come down while at home take a very warm shower, with the water pointing on your breast. If at work try taking a washcloth with you and before pumping get the washcloth wet with really warm water and applying it to each breast before pumping. If you end up getting alot of milk you do know that you can freeze it right?

here's the list:

Note: The following suggestions have been compiled from BBC posters on the “Pumping Moms” board.

You can also check la leche league - lalecheleague.org.

Tips for increasing supply…

1.Fenugreek
2.Blessed thistle
3.10-10-10 (pump 10 min, rest 10, pump 10 min)
4.Eat oatmeal every day – also anything containing oatmeal will help: Cheerios, Nutri-Grain bars, oat bread, etc.
5.Drink plenty of water
6.Pump immediately after baby nurses
7.Pump every two hours while you are away
8.Nurse your baby every 2 hours
9.Nurse when baby shows interest (on demand). Let your baby use you as a pacifier if necessary!
10.Pump on a regular schedule.
11.Don't watch the milk
12.Add one or two additional sessions
13.Mother’s Milk Tea (made of Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, and Fennel)
14.Calcium/Megnesium/Zinc supplement
15.Meditiation during pumping (visualize milk flowing from your breasts)
16.Milkmaid Tea by Earth Mama Angel Baby
17.Beer (not more than 1 per day – darker beers work best.)
18.Orange or green gatorade
19.Reglan (available by prescription). Do not take Reglan if you have a history of depression.
20.Domperidone (www.globaldrug.tv)
21.Have a "nursing in bed weekend". Cancel all your plans for errands you think you must do (but really dont matter in the scheme of things) and relax in bed nursing your baby skin to skin. The smell of your baby and relaxing helps boost your milk supply and it is so nice to take a break when you are a busy working mommy – OR,
22.Take 2 days off from work and do the same as above. You will be amazed at how resting and relaxing and nursing without pressure helps to increase your supply.
23.Let your baby end the nursing sessions when you are trying to increase your supply – don’t end the session for him/her.

i totally feel for you. and when it comes down to it, if your body doesn't produce enough, use formula. really, it's not the end of the world; i promise. my daughter and i had finally gotten into a good rhythm of nursing to where she was even sleeping through the night - then i went back to work and it all went to *&^%.

but she's happy, healthy, smart and beautiful. stressing about your milk production will not give you enlightenment - nor will it make you a better mom. you're already a great one.

good luck!

Drink lots of water and pump even when the babies not there. The less you pump, the less milk you'll produce. Try pumping 2-3 hours after you drop the baby off and then again 2-3 hours later. It can be a pain, but it will stimulate you to start producing regularly again:) Also try pumping after a warm shower. This seems to produce a good amount. Good luck:)

the more the nipples are stimulated the more milk is produced, so increase breast feeding, by up the frequency, and duration. If the infant is not cooperatingfor increased suck pumping more frequently and longer will fake the body out. When the nipples are stimulated in the sucking action you secrete a hormone that tells the body to create more hormones that cause milk production, This tells the body there is a increase demand for milk

Kind of hard to pump every hour if you are at work. You can talk to a lactation consultant about natural herbs that help increase milk production. You can also mix the breastmilk with formula. They did this for my son because he was a preemie and needed the extra calories, and he was on a feeding tube. My son has done great. Almost 3 months early and no delays, and he went on all formula when he came home from the hospital.

Like others have said it is about supply and demand, the more your baby nurses/the more you pump, the more milk you will make. Be sure that you are resting enough and getting some extra calories (like an extra sandwich a day) and fluids (water, milk and such) to keep up with the demands on your body.

If you keep having problems, consult La Leche or a breastfeeding consultant from your hospital.

Good luck! You can do it!

*>>> What's up? My name's Gwenivere, let me tell you a brief story about myself which I believe may be of some H?lp to you...

Growing up, I was teased all throughout high-school. You know, I was that girl with the really small breasts that everyone liked to make fun of. I did not hit puberty until a little bit later on in my life. People used to say all kinds of mean things to me, refering to my breasts as "man-boobs", "mosquito bite titts", "flat-chested" ... it just went on and on. I even had one boyfriend that told me that he was ashamed to be seen with me in public. The ridicule never seemd to end. Because of this, I went through school being very self-conscious about my appearance and my ability to get boys to like me. Even after puberty, I never made it past an A cup.. so my negative self-image carried on into college. The emotional scars left by those mean girls (and boys) from HS never quite faded.

So, with that, I was determined to change my predicament. The thought of going through life feeling insecure about my body was unacceptable to me , especially during my college years. So what I did was a thorough, dedicated search. I scoured the web for answers. I spent several days and nights pouring through an endless amount of first-hand accounts and other personal experiences with various products and solutions. During this quest, I found precisely what I was seeking. It was a topical cream called "CurvyBust" @ https://tr.im/BreastEnlargementSecret The first bottle that they sent out was totally Fr?e, the only thing I had to do was pay for the S and H. This is the only reason I even tried it, normally I would be too skeptical to bother with something "too good to be true." All I can say is, unbelievable. I went up almost 2 cup sizes in just a matter of a couple months. You would not believe what this has done for my self-esteem and outlook on things. I almost feel like I have a new lease on life. There is nothing quite like feeling perfectly comfortable in your own skin again.

Take care! I hope you find the answers you are looking for <3

I breast fed both my kids and took breastfeeding classes. I was taught that the more your baby eats or the more often you pump the strong or more your milk supply will be. So maybe try to pump more often if you can.
