Wow...I studied Criminal Justice in AZ-thought I wanted to do the same thing. But then I changed my mind b/c I thought it was too depressing. (after the tour). So I didn't do it.
But if you are sure this is what you want, you just need to go in there with a good and positive attitude everyday, and don't let it get you down.
As for what to wear, that's pretty much standard;it's a corrections uniform. And as for the ring-you don't say if you are male or female. I would wear just a plain band unless you're looking to pick up an inmate.

1) Try wearing dress slacks or khaki pants if you can and a shirt. no cleavage, nothing tight, nothing see through.
2) Do not under any circumstances speak to the population. Even if you know one of them, you have to set it straight about not crossing lines.
3) Don't carry anything in the prison that has personal info. You may need to carry id. Possibly those dress slack have button pockets.
4) Do not under and circumstance try to appear afraid. No nail bitting, no shaking, make eye to eye contact and talk with a strong loud assertive voice. Inmates smell fear!!!!
5) Don't wear any loud perfume. Inmates use it as a conversation starter, also no jewelry and no huge hair do's. try a ponytail.
Good luck!

Nothing sexy or flashy. If would agree with the business casual. Be prepared for the stares, its normal, inmates like to check out new staff. So just be on time and bring only the items you will need, clean out the purse. Good luck!

I visited the county jail for months while doing some research and while there they had a dress code that is in place to protect you. Mainly it was no short sleeve shirts, no see through, nothing short, nothing flashy, no open toe shoes, nothing showing your stomach or back. Basically cover up. Business Casual.

My best guess is that you're kidding, but I'm not going to answer with a jesting remark, because every time I do, I find out that they weren't really kidding.
