No fine. They would neither open nor confiscate a single home-made DVD sent by you to them for private viewing. Mark the envelope "data medium no commercial value".

Pirating DVDs carries a stiff fine all by itself, but sending them to Europe is an even more serious matter. Unless you want to risk a $372,700 fine and four years in jail, I'd say buy legal copies for your German friends.

I'm surprised that no one else is the least bit concerned that this is a crime. Would you be so casual about shipping heroin to Germany? Yes, I know it doesn't seem as serious, but the penalty is certainly serious. This is considered black market merchandise. Read the article at the link below.

Honestly, don't label the DVDs. Or label it, "Joe's College Graduation Party", or "Anita's Wedding", and just send it. I doubt they load up every disc they see.

It would probably be better to use a chat client like AIM, and send it via wireless transfer, and they can burn it in Germany.

customs agent are NOT allowed to view the dvd without a warrant (you never know what could be on it, lol) or your permission. if they ask just tell them that its a home made porn and they'll back off. (seriously)
