I understand why people use shortened words as I text, but it's a shame that our kids are going to grow up thinking all words are supposed to be like that. My pet hate is when people start a sentence with a small i. What happened to capital letters?

They aren't really paying attention to the questions, or their responses. For the most part, at least in the beginning, they type whatever then can as fast as they can so they will be able to hurry along to the next question to get the points.

I think those are mostly responders who think of this as more of a game than a question/answer session. Eventually some slow down & not only use spell checker, but they begin to pick & choose the questions they really want to answer. (Once their mind engages when they stumble across a question that makes them think.)

Note: This is theory only on my behalf.

the use of concise and perspicuous diction is always prevalent in modern usage but some people make execrable use of a spell checker to whit i therefore urge you my consociate to perceive that some people do not have the inducement to agonize unduly over such negligible issues and therefore it would be expedient for you to discharge your cranium from your rectal orifice forthwith.

My theories:

1) They don't realize a spell checker is available.
2) They don't care whether their spelling is correct or not.
3) They assume their spelling is correct and don't bother to check it.

They want to be the first to answer or they really don't care about being bothered by giving a best answer.
