Sometimes.
Some years back I had a bad pneumonia. So bad I took time off work and couldn't even get out of bed. I took a course of antibiotic tablets and got better. I didn't notice any side effects.
This year I seem to have a nasty cough. I am still up and about so it's not as bad as the pneumonia I had last time, but still it has lasted a long time. I got sick of waiting for it to go away and took a course of antibiotics. I got diarrhoea and felt worse. The cough has persisted and the antibiotics didn't help. It's probably viral or I've taken the wrong antibiotic.

Doctors are aware that there are side effects to all of their medications and procedures. Just ask them. They are obliged to tell you the options, including what might happen if you do nothing.

Unfortunately, you are right :(
Anyway, when you are planning a treatment you have to take in to account all the risks. There are cases that you really don't have a choice, but sometimes people are making some completely unnecessary surgeries (like breast enlargment or short sight eye fixing). When the fall in 99% of succesfull results they are happy, but there are also 1%...

yes, but the side effects dont usually occur so people tend to take their chance bicause the ods of something bad happening are REALLY slim.
