Your question indicates either you think it wasn't or that school work is demanding that you use your brain and research skills to support the idea. In either case, the evidence is historical. You will not find anything written anywhere by any respected source indicating that the war was more or less than a war for independence from England. Other interests were involved, such as France wanting more control of the North American continent, but the primary impetus was independence from and oppressive and abusive unrepresentative government bent on using the Colonies for its own interests, the primary one being enriching its coffers.
