I've had it for 5 years... tried the medication route, don't like the way they make me feel. I started the South Beach Diet because my dr. said it would be good for it. I'm 40 years old. Female and I've had a hyserectomy which I'm told was probably my "tramatic event" that brought it on. I didn't start having symptoms almost immediately after surgery. Anyways, just wondering if anybody has done anything that works well...

The South Beach Diet is certainly healthier than the normal American diet, but there are healthier diets out there.
I was totally incapicitated by the disease and took extreme measures. I went to a health farm for 3 weeks.

Next, I got a medical doctor who was also a homeopathist. You can find one here: the MD meant she was covered by my insurance.

I began to see an accupuncturist.
Finally, I instituted a daily exercise routine. I had 2 small children at the time, so I got up half an hour early and did exercise TV shows and VHS tapes.

I don't know which of these worked, or if it was the combination of all of them. Every couple years, I get symptoms and when that happens, I go back onto a stricter program of healthy food and exercise.

I'm going with bonzai on this one. My Mother "suffers" from this also. Personally I think it's just a normal event of a nerve dieing and you just feel it more as humans "feel" more pain when they get older.

BUT... perhaps you can get some info and help through wikipedia:

consider psychotherapy.

fibromyalgia is a psychosomatic illness, in the sense that nothing physical is wrong with you causing you pain. It's due to whatever reason psychologically that you are physically feeling pain. You aren't imagining the pain, you are just feeling it because of a psychological cause and not a physical one.
