Who are they asking questions too?? If it is you, you don't have to answer the cops. You can refuse to speak, but then you can get subpoenaed by the courts then you could be force to testify or face charges yourself for obstructing justice. But they (cops)can't force you to speak.
But if its something in a common area of the house, illegal, you could be charged along with you roomates, if you speak or not. Might be better to speak to prove your innocents, if in fact you are. It always easier when people cooperate.

Its a sticky spot, because A. you dont want to anger the criminal roomates and b. you dont want to hinder an investigation.
The worst of all is that if you are not a target of their crime who says they wont prey on you some time in the future. Watch your personal items such as cash, SS card, credit cards, cell phones, ect. They could ruin you if they decide they need extra money.
I would get out of dodge and find someplace else to live.

Depends on the state. If your roommates are criminals, get out. If you are on the lease and they commit crimes or have stolen goods in the apartment you can be made guilty by association. To worm out of such trouble you will more than likely have to snitch on your roomies- now is a good time to move back home.
NOTHING is more important than YOUR freedom.
D O N O T JEOPARDIZE YOUR FREEDOM OVER ROOMMATES!!!

I would just tell them that they are just your roommates and you don't get involved in any of their business. You don't have to answer any questions or talk to the police. I don't know what kinds of trouble you are talking about. I would be careful and consider getting a new address if they are involved in illegal activity to avoid problems. I don't want to go to jail for somebody else.

I think you should be able to refuse to answer their questions. Though it may seem like it at times or some people believe it, U.S. is not a police-state.
They [police] may try to intimidate you and get you to think that you may be deemed suspicious for refusing though. If you have nothing to do w/ the problems of your room-mate, it shouldn't be a problem...further questions may be construed as harassment.
Police are trained to elicit as much info. as possible...sometimes they have to come very close to the line of violation of civil liberties. You have to know your rights and the 'line'....and when and how to refuse to answer. Contact an attorney.

you can move out or find yourself another roomate (the one that does not get in trouble with the law) but other than that there's not much you can do.

Are they harassing you? If so, tell them you're done talking until you have an atorney present. The down side to that is,if they feel you're witholding than you're going downtown and they'll get you an atorney.

If you do not want to talk to the police, tell them straight up you do not wish to speak to them. This would not be a lie and you would not be wasting their time.
Sounds like you need new roommates.
