ive had this kitten now for about a month and he's adjusted very well. Before the kitten i had a hamster, and since we've had the kitten ive kept the hamster locked up in a room worried the cat will get to him. The room has no venilation (except for a small desk fan i put in) and he now gets no attention since i forget he's locked up. Id like to bring him back out but im worried about the cat will knock the cage over and the hamster get loose. He was ontop of the TV but that was too highup for my comfort...i was thinking about a smaller cage and then putting him ontop of the bookcase...and ideas?

Hi there...if you keep the hamster IN (not on top) the bookcase just be sure it's secured well enough (e.g. between a bunch of books) so that the cage cannot be knocked too far onto the ground and break injuring the hamster.

Cats and small animals can live together in close proximity if every caution is exercised. Consider placing double sided sticky tape around the hamster's cage so if the cat tries to jump near it will become stuck to the tape and later eventually avoiding those areas. Cats dislike getting stuck so this is a nice solution to be sure kitty isn't getting too close.

Is the kitten going to be fixed? Is it declawed? I know someone who has 2 hamsters 2 cats a dog and 2 turtles and all live together in the house and the cats do nothing to the hamsters. Even when the hamster escapes his ball and starts eating the dogs food they dont do anything to it.
