the difference between a budgie and a parakeet:
a budgie, is usually smaller... and although it has different mutations, like albino and such.. they usually only come in English, which is bigger, and then just the regular smaller size.
they have the main colors, and the seer above the nose which determines the sex.
parakeets are larger, have more bolder colors and come in many many different variaties!!
hope that helped..
sadly most people dont know the difference.. im glad your asking!!!

All budgies are parakeets. I will assume you bought yours at PetSmart or Petco because they call the other color mutations "rare", although they really are not most of the time. There are many different kinds of "parakeets"...for example, there is a family called "grass parakeets" that are very beautiful, but they are larger than a budgie and typically do better in an aviary, not as a pet. (They are not dumber, either, just not as cuddly as a budgie)
Budgies are very intelligent, too. They can learn many tricks and possess the ability to speak (although they may never do it).
good luck!

Probably not. Budgies are quite popular, the English Budgie being less so, but not rare. All budgies are parakeets, but not all parakeets are budgies. Parakeet is the term used for a smaller parrot.

With no photo is is hard to say if they are rare and if budgie or keet. But the difference is a Budgie is larger and has a longer head, and is heavier, and also shorter lived the a parakeet, who has a very small head and body, tends to be hardier then a budgie and much more common.

There are many kinds of parakeets (Grass, Echo, Red-Rumped, Splendid, Ring-Necked, etc.), but what you seem to be talking about is a common bird with uncommon coloration.
If it looks like a budgie, it's a budgie. It was advertised as rare because of its value to people who take interest in mutations of birds. If you are interested in breeding your birds, they will probably sell for a higher price than average budgerigar parakeets.
Type "rare parakeets" into your browser, and chances are you'll see either CITES listings (endangered animals), or people explaining the same thing I've tried to.

budgies are often sold in pet stores for $25-$50 each. they are small (usually blue, green, yellow,...) and often called parakeet, probably because they look like "little parrots", hence parakeet.
True parakeets are larger birds, body style/shape similar to conures. Parakeets would sell starting at $150 i believe. you probably have budgies.
people who would spend $200 upwards on a bird generally know what they have.

The Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus, nicknamed budgie), the only species in the Australian genus Melopsittacus, is a small parrot belonging to the tribe Melopsittacini in the subfamily of the broad-tailed parrots (Platycercinae). Though budgerigars are often called parakeets, especially in American English, this term also refers to any of a number of small parrots with long flat tails. The budgerigar is found throughout the drier parts of Australia and has survived in the inlands of that continent for over 5 million years.

the two are frequently appeals for issues you ask for selfishly or might desire to shield your self. The Lottery costs you a around 70 cents for each greenback of return on the long term, and it has basically materialistic advantages. Prayer doesn t fee you something, the outcomes are based on the request s contract with the ideal divine plan, and it could have eternal advantages. The Lottery will ruin your economic enterprise account, yet making an investment in prayer builds your heavenly account -- in case you have typical the deposit that s waiting to take you out of the crimson.

Parakeet is a generic term, like "terrier" or "hound". It refers to parrots with long tails - although not all parrots with long tails are parakeets. Look up http://www.indianringneck.com/ to learn about the Asian parakeets. When you say, "rare", what do you mean? What do your birds look like?
