Because human languages are far more complex than anyone has ever given them credit for. Even linguists are just beginning to understand some of the complexities which we subconciously deal with on a daily basis in terms of using this uniquely human tool. The computer programs used to "translate" are like 2-year-olds trying to make sense of Plato's Republic in comparison.

Computers dont understand our languages, but just know translations of the words we give them. It can translate every word, but not put it in thet languages gramatical order.

They are only as good as their designers. They have a logic and most languages are not completely logical. If a word has several meanings the program may not be sophisticated enough to know which one to use.
