I guess it depends where you live, what the cost of living is, etc. Also, the ages of the kids likely play a role in your total expenses. I live in an expensive community. Gas is like $3.25 a gallon, the average house costs $600k, etc. However, if I lived out in a small country town in the midwest I'm sure I could find an identical house for $150 - 200k. So, where you live can be a significant factor.
If you're wanting a technical/legal definition/answer I can't help you. You can probably search online, check out government sites, etc.

What kind of question is this?
It can't be answered. First off, depends on where you live in the country. Some places you can buy a brand new 4 or 5 bedroom house on a few acres for under 200K! And i you live in the Northeast, or CA, you talking about 500-700K for the same house on less than an acre.
Also depends on if you buy lots of clothes, make clothes, do you buy food wholesale, or just go to the grocery store.
There's no easy answer for that.

Why do people fool around with the question. Poor guy.
Anyway I would say a family of seven min. 75,000. You can live with 7 for that. Obviously the more you have the more you spend. But you can surley survive.

Depends on where you live and HOW you live? We are a family of 5, earn close to 200K, live in a million dollar home and 200K seems to be sufficient. Now............. even though we live in a nice home and our kids wear expensive shoes, we do pinch pennies. We don't go out to eat alot nor do we take extravagant vacations. I stay at home with the three kids so daycare is not an added expense.
Again.............just depends on where and how you live?

Depends on the life style...
My dad made 10 bucks an hour and supported 7 of us when my cousins were living with us. We ate spam and oatmeal every day for every meal, adn we each only had two pairs of pants... but we survived and were happy.
