Im really unsure of what i am being charged with.. on my ticket/paper it says TO WIT: subject was inotxicated and possessed a bottle containing liquor. THUS Committing: Underage Possession. Because my student legal services cant take m case, i have no other means of legal advice. My court date is in 2 weeks and i am going to college as of now. I have no clue how the system will work or what to plead. I cant afford a lwyer so i basically have to go out on my own on this one. If anyone has any ideas for what i should do i would greatly appreciate it.

You should check to see if you can get a court appointed lawyer before you go to court. If not when you go to court plead not guilty and request an attorney. The bottom line is attorneys negotiate and I wouldn't confess or admit anything before I talk to an attorney.

Well Dude, if you plead innocent you will need a lawyer, since you can't afford one you have an option. Start looking for a way to pay for a laywer or be a fool a represent yourself. Oh then there is the public defender. But I really dont think that is a viable option. Do you really want the same team (the state) that is trying to convict you defending you? So my advice is based on what your future goals are. If you are going into politics then having charges on your record my cost you in the future. But if your planning on being a computer engineer, or an artist then plead guilty. The courts in University towns deal with the underage consumption and possession charges all the time. YOu are probably looking at a few weekends doing community service work. and a suspended jail sentence of 30 days or less, coupled with a year of probation. Doesn't that make you want to have a drink?

Sounds like you were caught bang to rights. If I were you just plead guilty and hope for the best. I'm guessing that this is your first encounter with the law. Trouble is how the law deals with people differs from place to place somewhat. But I would say that if you are caught red-handed you only anger the Judge and everyone else even more trying to come up with lame excuses etc.

This is pretty simple. Are you under age? Were you intoxicated? Were you in possession of a bottle containing liquor?
You mentioned student legal services. I presume you are in college.
You should be smart enough to figure this one out. Here is one hint - plead guilty and take your lumps.

I would suggest you plead guilty and throw yourself on the mercy of the court. Since it is your first offense, you might be fortunate enough to have a judge who will let you off light with some community service and/or a very light sentence like probation. Please don't get yourself in this situation again--use common sense and wait until you are of legal age to drink alcohol. Good luck!

Plead not guilty and request a court appointed lawyer. Your first court appearence is just for you to enter your guilty or not guilty plea. So not guilty then your lawyer will advise you further.
