He sounds just like my four year old . He did the scissors on his bangs a few weeks ago. That is just a stage, I did not take away the scissors I just explained to him that you can not cut your own hair that is why we go to the hairdressers.
if you lived near us I would say come on over and they can play. But you never know you could be a crazy kid napper that wants to get my children. So find some friends close to his age that he can play with.
Are you able to send him to Preschool? That is a good place for these boys to be. My son starts next week. They are boys and we should be thankful they are healthy. Good Luck I am sure you will be fine with him. Have a great Monday

its not something you can do something about, so don't take it as a sign of a bad mom. he's 4, he can't help it either. my oldest made a cake on my kitchen carpet(4 boxes cake mix, 24 eggs, 1 open gallon milk, half a jar of pickles and assorted tonka mini trucks) two weeks later he got kicked out of daycare for barking at the poor lady and eating the kibble, then he took my leg razor and removed an eyebrow and a half. I freaked, scheduled therapy and was told by a child head shrink-er"he four that's what they do". It became clear that he was trying to be a little grown up, and i got different toys(most of the old ones were baby toys) and started letting him help. BUT hid the scissors, lock the tools and medications and keep your keys with you or they might get flushed. Your a good mom but He's 4, you got to raise him past that, but then he will be 5, and the school will be calling. just life nothing you can do about it. so smile and think"at least he's not 2!!

I think you're doing fine. Almost every child at one time or another has tried to cut their hair. I have a picture of myself that my parents took when I tried it years ago...
It's a keepsake.
For those replies from people worried about the scissors... I am assuming these are the kids scissors with the rounded tips that are so dull that they can only cut two things, paper and bangs...

The hair cutting is normal, i cut my own hair when i was his age, and so did my sisters. No our parents were not lazy and did not care what we did. I got in trouble plenty. The corner, they spanked us we grew up fine. Anyway back to his self hair cut, just tell him that is not how to use the scissors and if he does it again you will take them away. You have to think he is 4 he dose not know any better unless you have told him over and over not to cut his hair. If you have never told him not to do that he was just being a kid and finding things to cut with them. Tell him he can only cut paper and if he cuts anything else you will take them away. They have to be told right from wrong before you can punish they for something they did at that age.

When my daughter was 3 she came into the kitchen and said, Mommy, I put the scissors away. I looked at her and realized she had cut her bangs. And it did not look good.
He didn't hurt himself and he is four. This is typical four year old behavior. The cat food either will get blown out or sucked down his throat. The hair will grow back. RELAX!!!!

I used to cut my hair and my dolls hair with scissors when i was little too. he cant understand that he looks bad with his bangs cut like that. I didn't care what i looked like @ 4 and i don't think any normal child does at that age. don't emphasize looking bad with his hair cut. I think you should take away the scissors (my mom never did) and don't give them back for a while unless he has to use them for school. that will teach him you cant do that. and don't 4get to explain why. I think he will be more responsible

That's quite normal for a 4-year-old child. He's experiencing the world - both physically and socially. He's just learning the basics. However, taking away the scissors would not cause any harm :)

I wouldn't let him around the cat if he's carrying scissors... WHy are you asking if you should take the scissors away?!! THE ANSWER IS YES!!!!
He's trying to get attention..did you have a new baby recently?! or is there fighting or tension going on around him?! Sometimes when that age feels like they're NOT the baby anymore they do things to get the extra atteniton..good or bad...just DON'T let him have scissors unless you're sitting with him..be glad he didn't cut your hair..I learned this one the hard way with a round hair brush...my son at 4 wanted to brush my hair...my husband had to cut the hair brush OUT of my hair! We told him to brush nicely but he wrapped my past my butt hair around the hair brush and tangled it up to where my hair now comes to the center of my back....

It happens, I dont think a 4 year old should have unlimited access to scissors anyway, expecially a boy. They do stuff just for the hell of it. I have 3 kids and the boy is like night and day compared to the girls, however they all cut their bangs, so did I. Didnt u ?
