If you ask a group of service users, staff and the public what expectations they had of a service you would get 3 different answers but you have to take all 3 into account when trying to improve a service. You also need to make sure the people who you asked views of, felt they were heard.

For example if you were to open a new mental health hospital, people in the area might be worried, staff might have further to travel if they are moving from a different hospital and they might want some input into how the building was planned. The service user might want it to be not to far from home and not in an area that is opposed to the hospital being there for when they go out on day release.
So all the people involved in this process would have views, preferences and expectations of the new hospital being acceptable to all of them.

Another example might be when someone is sectioned the carer might want one thing, the service user and the person who feels they need sectioning another all views would have to be heard and the best solution possible made for the person being sectioned.

I have not done this course.

I hope this helps.
