well, it could be argued that all countries need a nuclear deterrent against nuclear nations.
The fact that the UK has nukes should be enough to prevent the French, or the Americans, or Pakistan, or anyone else from launching a warhead against them.
Reasoning with that logic, we could say that if every country had the bomb, it could effectively be an "end to all wars" (Oppenheimer, 1944)
And why not the French? In the late 1800's who would have suspected Germany as a menace to Europe? Nobody.
The next could well be the French, or the Brits, etc etc etc.

It does not. The two nations have been Allies for the last 100+ years. Whoever put forward the argumant that the UK needs a nuclear deterrent to French agrression is being ridiculous.

Wasn't the UK's nuclear capacity a way of preventing the nuclear super-powers from bargaining Britain away? Who said it had anything to do with the French? On the theory that it does, however, it may be because the French have an active Communist party and because at one point they elected a Socialist chief executive

Lets hope that any nation with nuclear weapons are sane enough never to use them.... Its only an effective deterrent if it deters. France & England are allies, so Britain has no bombs aimed at France.

Dunno....look at ww2 - the germans only had little prop planes and tanks made of iron....and france surrendered after 2 days. Imagine how they would do against a load of Harriers onboard HMS Invincible?
Oh wait - they've got blokes on bikes selling onions and garlic, wearing a berret and a stripy top.....WE SURRENDER. Just as long as they don't invade with Peugeots, Renaults and Citroens - they'd only make it as far as Rochester before they fell appart.

purely guessing, yet no. We [76423d8352c9e8fc8d7d65f62c55eae976423d8352c9e8fc8d7d65f62c55eae9] do certainly purchase a number of our nuke guns from the 76423d8352c9e8fc8d7d65f62c55eae9SA yet once bought and paid for, they're ours. this is type of like me paying for a automobile from the Ford broking service. i do not assume him to force me round in it. in case you spot what I advise. besides, maximum Brits at the on the spot are completely in help of the 76423d8352c9e8fc8d7d65f62c55eae9SA, so what's the region? I advise, no individual is gonna hit the flow button besides, least not yet besides.
