The biggest reason why people stop a fitness training plan is because they do not see quick results. The biggest reason why people do not get results is because the over-train.

Muscle growth requires that the muscles must fully rest (actually the muscle fiber is re-building) before it is used again.

Here is an example: You get a job lifting concrete blocks. Over time you will get a little bigger and stronger. But after a while, you will stop getting bigger and stronger because the muscles memory knows that for 6 hours today they are going to do this type of work. Ok, but if you did the same thing, but lifting concrete blocks every second day, you would be able to carry more concrete blocks, thereby your muscle have increased in strength and size. If your muscles never fully rest, they will not perform 100% the next time you need them.

Cardio is a little different. If we train our heart-rate for only 20 minutes a day, then it will quickly get use to it. If we sort of cheat a little bit, and train 20minutes running up hills one day, 40 minutes on a bike machine, and then perhaps 2 hours of mountain bike...then the cardio strength has improved.

As with everything if you overdo something it is detrimental instead of beneficial.
In studing material for a test. If you try to cram a lot of information into your head, it will not fit. simply put, study over a steady long period of time yeilds more retained knowledge than short term cram of studying.
If you do nothing but lift weights all day long. you will achieve large muscles, but you will not necessarily be strong. You will just gain mass not substance.

because your muscles get tired and don't work as much as they usually do. Just like us after a great party night awaked. For muscles the train is a "party".

Have a good time and be careful...
