I've tried all kinds of sunblock, from Coppertone to Banana Boat brands and all have made my children darker. So I started looking at cosmetic brands like Shiseido, Lancome, Clarins, etc. and found that they actually block out the sun very well because the children shows no sign of tan-lines and they do not get darker. But somehow the kids always show some kind of adverse reaction to the products and I end up in square one again. Does anyone know a good sunblock for kids that do NOT make them darker?

I've tried all the 50+ SPF. They make my children tan even more than if I didn't put any sunblock on them?

I know that being in the sun with or without the sunblock, you're going to tan. But I'm talking about getting really dark!!!

I always use coppertone spf 50 and put it on them every hour... But they do still have a bit of a tan. To help restrict the amount of sun gets to their skin I bought them UV treated body suits to wear when we are swimming. Only their faces get a little bit of sun now. Sunblock isn't really made to block 100% of the sun's rays. Just the majority of them... something like 95%

The problem with most cheap sunblocks is that they use photo unstable chemicals as their active ingredients. This means you'll have to reapply as much as every 20 minutes to remain protected from the sun. You'll want to look for a sunblock with high SPF (anything over 40 is fine), both UVA and UVB protection, AND both physical blockers and stable chemical blockers. Physical blockers such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide will protect your kids' skin as long as it's on. Good chemical blockers to look for are cinnamates, oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octisalate. These combined with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide should block out the majority of UVA and UVB rays.

My favorite sunblock is Trader Joe's SPF 50. It doesn't have any unstable ingredients like avobenzone (Parsol 1789) and it's a steal at $3.59 for 4 oz. I can get by with just reapplying twice if I'm in the sun all day and I'm a porcelain pink color in foundation so I guarantee that this stuff works!

the problem is not the sunblock it's the sun. as far as i'm concerned you cannot stay the same skin color if you're exposed in the sun for too long. tanning lotion just makes the effect greater

Read your label carefully some sun blocks have a self tanner in them. I like the tear free banana boat for babies it seems to work well.
