It would help to know the type and color of furniture you have.I read that you were given some items so if I know what type I can help you much better. With gray walls you can go with modern or industrial or very sophisticated. With the beige you can use more warm and inviting colors and styles. If you play up the decor your wall color will not be the most visible thing, if you are trying for a warm look.Or you can get an area rug in the colors to go with the wall color to play up that style.Use throws, pillows, pics or posters to bring out your style. In the bedroom you have a very big choice of styles! You can use burgandys to enrich, and make it romantic, the room and tone down the green. You can use a beach style, mod look with lots of colors and geometric shapes, you can do a shabby sheik with all neutralsand white and that would tone down the floor color expecially if you use a couple of area rugs in the most visible areas.Shabby sheik is inexpensive because you can make it with white sheets and find spreads, covers, curtains, etc at garage sales and flea markets. Nothing has to be a match but just in a neutral shade of beiges, off whites, and white. You can add to it for yrs without ever having to go get it all at once. Your family probably has things that you could use that ar in the attic or hope chests. You may get a grandmothers crocheted item or shawl to add to it. Or even a baby dress or baptismal gown. You can frame those and put old baby shoes or a small antique toy with it.If you go modern or contemorary in either room it is easy to make your own artwork with shapes or simple designs. Or frame your pics with the colors of the room for the mat and use the same frame on all of them.I have helped my kids and friends out with this type of thing many times. You can decorate for very little cash if you take some time and use your imagination!Contact me if I can help.Best wishes.

Bedroom ideas...make your accent color yellow, pastel preferably, think "nature",like plants & flowers, scenery pictures, wood accents or lodge look..you can also use painted lattice panels on the lower half of the walls then run silk ivy vines around the top of it..
Living room ideas....you may have to tie 2 colors in with this..like light & dark blue could do the trick ..use borders with like colors in it around the middle or top or bottom & top of the walls, maybe frame a picture on all 4 sides with the borders as well,or a square of border around a ceiling fan..like a frame..
Just some thoughts..=)

I would paint the trim in a light earth tone color that has dark colored walls. Color coordinate. If you like patterns, do so but, bring the colors/patterns of your place with you to coordinate them with the things you would purchase whether it would be furniture, drapes, soap, paint, etc., etc.
