Your mother-in-law is nuts. There are carcinogens almost everywhere, and she is choosing to focus on an infinitesimally small risk area, and I'll bet she ignores other much-higher risk areas in her everyday life! You might point this out (nicely!) and help her relax a little!
Does she drive? Does she exercise regularly? Is she overweight at all? She has a 1-in-100 lifetime chance of dying in a car accident, a 1-in-7 chance of dying of cancer, and a 1-in-5 chance of dying as a result of heart disease. Butter & bacon are far more dangerous than dryer lint!

I have never heard of such a thing! The only thing I've ever heard about dryer lint is to clean it out after every load or you could start a fire. That's it. But if you do hear that this is true, let me know, that would be interesting to learn more about.

It comes from your clothing, towels, bedding, anything else you wash/dry. I wouldn't expect the lint to be carcinogenic unless those things are.

Carcinogens, yes. And where there are carcinogens, there can be cancer.
