Can you be a Christian and not be saved? I understand that some people go to church but are not saved, but are they considered Christians?

Serious answers please, I'm just curious.

If you are not saved then you are not a Christian. Some people go to church to be seen as Christians. If you are a true Christian you are saved. Case in point..Priests who molest children, rapist, etc. are not Christians

I don't think this saved thing is a universal christian thing. I was raised catholic, and I don't recall all this talk about being saved. At least there wasn't an emphasis on it.

The impression I've gotten is that being saved means you have an epiphany where you say - oh wow, Jesus, God, wow! There's a lot of singing, dancing, speaking in tongues, and rapture and praising. And then you go about the rest of your life doing as you see fit. As long as you don't go back on that, you're golden.

Catholics seem to be a more somber group, and while I think they subscribe to the saved idea, they don't get all prancy about it. And they have a lot more rules and regs for getting to heaven.

Not everyone who is a Christian is saved.
Not everyone who goes to church is saved.
You are only saved when you CONFESS and REPENT of your SINS and IS OBEDIENT TO GOD.
God didn't say "be a christian and be saved from the fires of hell".
God gave us salvation through Jesus Christ, that means a "shot at heaven" (in lay man terms). To be promised a place in heaven, you have to be obedient.

Romans 5:19
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

2 Corinthians 9:13
while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men,

Deuteronomy 8:20
As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.

Isaiah 1:19
If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;

1 Peter 1:14
as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;

Being "saved" or "born again" means you have accepted the Lord Jesus as your Savior whole heartily and have changed your life to be a reflection of your beliefs in the Lord. You must believe in Jesus, know the Word of the Lord, live by the Word of the Lord, and share the Word of the Lord with others. Anyone can call themselves a "Christian", but to truly be saved, we must be committed to a life with Jesus.

If you are a christian than you are saved because you have accepted Jesus as Lord of ur life. This is the way that I have always understood. It is impossible for someone to go to church and label themselves a christian but have never confessed Jesus as Lord of their lives. If they have labeled themselves as Christians then they are truly deceiving themselves.

In order for one to call themselves a true christian,one must be saved. Just going to church doesn't make you a christian. A real christian has excepted Jesus as his/her personal savior and lives their lives each day as a person who serves God to their utmost ability.

You can be a cultural Christian without actually being saved. Being saved has nothing to do with how you were brought up, what church you go to, or how good a person you are... you are saved when you realize that you can't save yourself from your sins and that nothing you can do can make you good enough for God, and trust entirely in Jesus to do it. He took our punishment by dying for us, and if we trust in that then we are pure and "saved" in God's sight.

Church has nothing with being saved. I did not go to Church until I found that one that I agreed with. There's a lot of fake Church's out there. Then again, there a lot of good Church's, also. You need to find a good Bible-believing Church to go to. Being saved is accepting Jesus as your own personal Savior. That's it. No priests, pastors, Mohammed, Joseph Smith involved. Just you and Jesus.

Some people consider themselves to be the religion of the church they are attending - although they may not have gone through any special "procedures" like communion, baptisms, etc. However, if you are a "born again Christian" you are born again because you became saved. I hope this answers your question.

A Christian is one who has committed his or her life and immortal soul to Jesus as God, the Messiah, the One and only Way to enter Heaven, looking constantly to Jesus for help and direction, and for forgiveness for our sins.

We are human, admittedly imperfect, often forget to ask for guidance and help, and often fail, but we keep trying to be faithful.

Just going to church or living a good life does not count for anything, nor does knowledge of Christianity. What counts is a real relationship with Jesus.
