I know a lot of individual units have ROYAL in the title - REME, Blues and Royals etc....
And I know Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy.

It is partly to so with Cromwell as people have answered before and the fact that his new model army was anything but affiliated to royalty.
The second part however is that we still didnt have a national army in terms of the UK for a long time after that. Cromwells army was an English army, not a British one.
The Royal Navy was actually the first branch of service to be established as a British one by the ruling monarch, which is why it is still refered to as the "senior service".
The British Army however has more kind of stumbled into existence from being a collection of fuedal regiments, thru using mercenaries (often German), until eventually becoming a crown service which encompassed Scottish, Welsh and Irish regiments.

It's The British Army, The Royal Air Force and The Royal Navy. The Royal Marine Commando's are actually part of The Royal Navy. in the British Army many of the Units have a Royal in the title. For example, The King's Royal Hussars, The Queen's Royal Lancers, The Royal Regiment of Wales, 19 Regiment Royal Artillery, The Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Military Police, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, The Royal Engineers and the list goes on. So there are lots of Royals in the British Army, because each regiment unit and battalion has it's own title given to it by Royalty.

The first Model Army was created by Cromwell to fight the Royalists. Ever since they have never carried the title Royal as a whole. But individual regiments do carry this title. Such as Royal Fusiliers (Disbanded now) Now The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

It is kind of like the reason why people in the movies don't have names. You can't get too attached to the army because there just going to die on you anyway(j/k).
