I do not recommend putting a budgie with a tiel for a couple of reasons:
1)They have different dietary and space needs
2) Budgies like to play with tiels who rather be left alone, so a fight has a good chance of occurring.

The best thing to do is introduce them slowly on neutral ground. don't just stick the budgie in the cockatiel's cage or he'll look like an intruder. You should start with them in seperate cages near each other and take them out each day so they can play and become friends. Then when everything is good you can put them together. Make sure the cage is big so they have room.

I had a budgie and cockatiel live together for a long time and they were happy. The cockatiel loved to preen the budgie and talked to him alot. He even taught the budgie to sing a little.

They didn't get along great at first, especially if they were both on my wife's shoulder. The cockatiel would get territorial. But after a while they became great friends. It just takes time.

No, and for all the reasons stated above. You can buy him a cockatiel companion, but keep in mind that you need to introduce them slowly to each other. Just because they are both cocktatiels doesn't mean they will like each other! This does mean getting another cage, setting the cages close together and letting them get used to the other for a couple of weeks. You can get them out together and see how they react to each other, and then put them in the same cage if they seem to enjoy each other. You know you have really succeeded if they start grooming each other (called "allopreening"). This really tells you that they are good buddies.

I had 5 rescued tiels at one time and they were all caged separately to prevent any squabbling. However, they happily sang to each other, and if I wasn't trying to find them all homes, i would have eventually put them together. I did not want them to "pair off".

You could try it but as people have said, there could be problems. Generally when you mix species you need to have very large cages, perhaps even an aviary, and it will require lots of attention to make sure the personalities mesh nicely and that everyone works and plays well together. Feeding is also has to be well thought out, since the diet for one type of bird may not be best for the other.

Yes, you could get it a companion 'tiel, but you will want to introduce them slowly, both to allow time for them to get to know each other, and to prevent the transmission of any communicable diseases. (Birds hide illness well. Don't take chances even if BOTH birds look fine. Quarantine is the way to go.) And remember, birds like people have different personalities. Just cause you get him a friend doesn't guarantee he'll like him.

No budgies tend to bully Cockatiels. It is never a good idea to mix different kinds of birds together in the same cage. Cockatiels liked to be touched and fooled around with more than Budgies. It should definately be okay - however, you may want another cockatiel instead of a budgie. I had budgies mixed with my cockatiels for years and they didn't mind - however, just a word of caution - you may have to separate them if they start fighting b/c it's not something they will stop doing once they start. But I doubt that will happen for you - good luck!

This isn't a good idea. Even though some people might have done it, you should never attempt this, it could result in if not one maybe more dead birds or seriously hurt birds. I would try to get another cockatiel, maybe female? I have had LOTS of experience with birds. I have owned, raised, and bred birds for about 14 years. So if you want a campanion for your cockatiel, please don't get a budgie

For the most part yes. The individuals make all the difference and if you've had birds for any length of time you will know, they all have their own personalities.

I kept budgies and 'tiels for years together.

Only thing was that the budgies ran the cage lol

Also, remove them if you are going to breed, or have an ill animal.

I thought I'd add that cockatiels get pretty aggressive and moody when they're hormonal. Sometimes they don't even like living with eachother! lol

Even if you get another cockatiel of the same sex to keep him happy, it's a considerate idea to have another cage at first. Nobody really likes being told who they have to live with. They'll like having a chance to get used to eachother, side by side, maybe playing a little every night if they're clipped.
