Legally, there is no 'grace period' , '72 hours' (or any other time frame) or 'right to cancellation period' when it comes to automobile purchases UNLESS the purchase was conducted at YOUR home or YOUR place of business. This applies to ALL vehicle purchases in ALL 50 of the United States.

However....if you notify the dealer BEFORE they process paperwork...a dealer may opt to let you exchange your vehicle for another one at the same dealer.

This would be at the dealers discretion.& the dealer is in no way obligated to do so.
You would of course, have to pay any difference in price & can be charged restocking fees, & mileage fees.

Again, LEGALLY the dealer is not obligated to do so.
When you purchase a vehicle, you signed the Title or MCO (manufacture certificate of origin) This is not easily fixed. Its not like as if they can just print up a new one or "white out' your signature.

Given the brief period, in your case, a reputable & understanding dealer might decide to tear up a contract & undo paperwork for you IF you are still buying a car from them, but this would be additional (LOTS of additional) paperwork, and you may have to pay for that.

No, you can't. Some d00b will probably say that there is a 3-day "cooling-off" period but there is NO truth in that. Read your sales agreement. Unless it specifically says that you have a period of time that you may cancel the deal and return the car, you have NO right of cancellation.

You should have discussed this with your wife before you committed to the purchase.

The dealer will take it back in trade most likely, but you will take MAJOR financial loss on that. Expect the trade-in allowance to be several thousand less than you paid for the car.

Many states have a law prescribing a limit on the number of days you can cancel a car contract. Check with the State's Attorney's office where you live and they can tell you.
