A suicide car bombing and clashes between Shiite militia and Iraqi security forces left at least 50 people dead Monday in a brutal contradiction of the President Bush's claim that bloodshed was decreasing.

The deaths followed bombings and shootings Sunday that killed more than 60 people across the country, from the northern city of Kirkuk to Baghdad and Basra in the south. The dead included** eight American soldiers**, one of the U.S. military's deadliest weekends in months. The USA military says they need more soldiers due to having so many set backs.

Is there some sane reason you take such joy in the death of the US military?
President Bush said bloodshed was decreasing and since US soldiers last death before this week end was 10 days earlier, the statement is true. The Iraqi deaths were also down during this time. No one controls terrorist except themselves.
The US military asked for more soldiers to try to squash this once & for all.
Look into your soul & ask why being "right" is worth being happy that young men from the United States die.
I am not a supporter of war but I do support the United States & esp. these young men in the military. I will never rejoice death of others.

"A suicide car bombing and clashes between Shiite militia and Iraqi security forces left at least 50 people dead Monday"

Excuse me for asking the obvious but wasn't the plan to build up Iraq’s forces to a point that, eventually, they would be responsible for their own security. And doesn't this story, as tragic as it is, perfectly illustrate that Iraqi forces are indeed taking on this role?

What you failed to make clear was who those that died were---except for highlighting the ***American Soldiers***** who died over the weekend ALL by roadside bombs. The remaining deaths were made up by 25 Iraqi soldiers, seven civilians and two militiamen in the actual fight between Iraqi forces and the militia of Muqtada al-Sadr and another car bomb that left 14 people, including eight policemen dead. There were also 25 Iraqi civilians killed when 3 cars opened fire on an open air market.

Anyone with the smallest bit of honesty can clearly see that this fighting is taking place between Iraqi Military and police and elements of Iraqi society that do not want the new government to succeed. We, at this point, are taking a much heavier support role to Iraq than we ever have and they continue to get better in supporting themselves.

Put down your i-pod, push away from your computer, and stop to realize that changing a country does not take place in a couple of years no matter how much some Americans want instant gratification.

Lastly------"The USA military says they need more soldiers due to having so many set backs. "

C'mon, did you write this?? You mean we lost our last 8 guys and we need to replenish---sheesh how idiotic

All of you morons that seem to think we don't belong in Iraq and we have no reason ever to be at war are nothing but the naive babies of your left wind idealogs suckling at their teats. You believe that wishing for something really can make it come true. You never grew up and faced the harsh realities of the world we live in. You do nothing but sit back on your fat rumps brushing away the doughnut crumbs lecturing those who make it possible for you lazy Pollyanna’s to be a professional student or espouse the failed philosophy of the left wing radicals that came before you.

Your the first ones to scream about Women’s right, civil rights, animal rights, the environment etc.etc.etc, but do we hear a single PEEP from these same people decrying the abuse of every man, woman and childs civil rights in these countries run by dictators? Do we hear you speak up about the treatment of women in these countries? Do we hear them speak out about the horrible state of environmental affairs in these countries? Not one peep.

Hypocrites who like to hear themselves talk, plain and simple

And to Holly, who wrote to say she did not support the war but did support the troops. Please, do yourself a huge favor and don't show your husband what you wrote---he, as you should be, would be ashamed. This is an all VOLUNTEER military. Anyone who joins, knows perfectly well what the miltary is for---to break things and kill people. You cant support the troops and not support the war, it's an oxymoron.

First lets clarify a few things when you make statements like war supporter you place a negative spin on the rest of the context. If you are a war protester I can see your slant because anything other than full non acceptance is intolerable. Next very few people in the world would ever classify themselves as a war supporter. The majority of us are patriots and believe that what our forces are doing is the right thing to do under the given circumstances. As for "military statements" lets question who in the military you asked our the reporter asked if you have any experience with the military you would know that those comments were made by an individual of lower rank and no authority to make these "official comments" which they weren't or else there would be a clear quote with mane and title attached. Am I ashamed yes of you believing that we would ever intentionally put soldiers in the Field and the not support them. It is a war and casualties happen we accept that as part of doing the Job. grow a pair and stop the whining

Yes, the politicians go on telling us how much better things are getting but the Iraqis have now got much worse things than Saddam Hussein to worry about.
The Iraqi security forces are part of the problem and are just being used as camouflage so the coalition forces can cut and run as soon as Bush and Blair leave office.

Not necessarily. I do sincerely believe that if I was running the war, I would have seriously reduced such incidences. Remember, those incidents are part of a Psychological operations by the enemy. Their goal is to KILL and KILL and thus repudiate what the Americans are attempting to do in Iraq. Their idea is to kill so many that finally the New Iraqi and the American people say that is enough.. let's get out.. It is all part of the plan of the terrorists. Then are much smarter than the Americans or the Iraqi Government officials

Seems every time someone makes the "situation is getting better" claim, the terrorists are listening in and just have to go out to do something outrageous to disclaim it. What needs to be done is more aggressive fighting, less talking. Making a full disarmament of the militias would be a tremendous start, then concentrate on the really bad guys.

This on-going civil war has been going on for hundreds of years will continue to do so. If the American people actually believe and have faith that this administration will change things in Iraq in the next few years....they have another thing coming. This will only get through their meat-head skulls once a son or daughter of their is sent over there and blown away....all at the expense of Bush setting up Halliburtan Enterprises over there and making himself along with his good ol'boys billionares.

Be ashamed? Hell, no! There are more people killed in non-war violence in our cities than have been killed in the war.

America needs to wake up and realize that we are actually fighting Iran, Syria, Libya and other countries that are supplying the extremists. In my opinion, we are in World War IV. Number 3 was the cold war. Be thankful this is not occurring on our soil, how would you like to go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee and be blown up. It is coming, just a matter of when. Unless we can defeat them.

This is a war. People don't go around giving each other daisys, they try to kill each other.

The US definately needs a new strategy and the government needs to admit that the country is in full blown civil war and adapt.
