There is a corridor that leads into an empty room. The room is completely empty except for a lamp in one of the corners. On the other side of the corridor are three switches.
You know that one of them turns on the lamp, the other two don't do anything. You can play around with the switches turning each of them on and off as much as you like, then you can go into the room one time to check whether the lamp is on or off (there is a door so you can't know without entering the room).
Leaving the room, you have to know which of the 3 switches works and which 2 don't.
The question is: How do you do it?

I didn't cheat, but my uncle is an engineer and he asked us this question once. We told him that you should flip on of the switches, keep it on for several minutes, turn it off, flip another on of the switches and walk into the room. If the lamp is lit, then it was the last switch you flipped. If it's not, feel the lightbulb. If the bulb is warm, then it was the first switch you flipped. If it's off and not warm, then it was the last switch. However, if it wasn't the last switch, then the light bub is probably burned out :)
Here a riddle for you! If you have a 5 gallon bucket and a 3 gallon bucket and a neverending water supply, how do you get exactly 4 gallons of water using the two buckets? good luck!
Thanks for the riddle! :)

after much deliberation.....
i thought this was easy until i read it again and saw you can only go into the room one time..... :)
That being said.
I would turn on the first switch..... and leave it up for about 3-4 minutes then turn it off. I will then do the same to the second switch and run into the room. If the light bulb is not hot, then i know the third light turns it on. if the light bulb is off, then i know the second switch didn't turn it on. If it is cold, then I know the first did not turn it on and it has to be the third switch. If the light is on then I know the second light turns it on.

Turn on light switchno1 and wait a minute or two, then turn it off and switch on the light switch no 2 and run into the next room. If the light is off and feels warm its the no 1 switch If the light is on its light switch no 2 If the light is off and feels cold its no 3 switch
or to that effect
