My BF is going to Japan for 5 months so he will no longer be able to go to the gym. We were trying to find some kind of book or website that offered in home weight training that didn't require a lot of stuff...He can't take large dumbbells and stuff with him...Does anyone have any suggestions

Fitness bands that offer resistance training. They look like huge versions of the tubing they use to get blood from your arm. I used to have a set a few years ago and they were pretty good. It came with a video tape and a book.
There are new styles of hand weights which you fill with water.
Plus there are a lot of videos with various exercises that don't require much more than hand weights--and you can use the water filled ones for that.
Or he could buy inexpensive equipment when he gets to Japan and give it away when he leaves.
lots of links below to these products to give you an idea. Search for "travel workout equipment"

20 oz. plastic soda bottles can be filled w/ water or sand and used as dumbbells. stretch bands give resistance and are small and easy to pack. exercises to define muscle rather than build muscle require lighter weights or no weight at all.
