I have an adaptor but I think I need some sort of converter to stop the iron getting too hot?

The problem is not the plug, but as you seem to suspect, the voltage. US runs on 110volts, UK on 220, so if you are going to plug it in, stand well back and have a fire extinguisher ready!
A step-down transformer would be needed, but cost more than a new UK-voltage iron, so don't be mean!
Incidentally, take a UK iron to the US and although it would not be dangerous, neither would it get hot enough to work.

here meaning? well, if you mean Asia, you will need to get a voltage converter. Not cheap. Any simple pin adapter and your iron will melt or explode. Why? Because is the US, the voltage of in house electricity is 120 Volts, while in other parts of the world it is 220-240 Volts. Check your iron spec sheet. Is it rated for 120 or 220 volts. if 220, then just the simple plug converter will do. if 120, then you'll need to get the voltage regulator. These are usually bought at electrician stores, not supermarkets, but you should be able to find one in the international travellers section.

Hope that helped. Always use a grounded power wire. (3 pin)

In england you runn 220-240 volts. The U.S. runs 110-120 volts. The physical plug is obviously different. If your adaptor is not a voltage converter, then you will need to purchase one that is.

Some electronics have an automatic or manual switch that can adjust the voltage and all you need is the physical adaptor (which you have). Irons are so basic and inexpensive, most don't have the added feature of multiple voltage selection.

Check the manual to be certain.

Unless america has changed but it's about 110-120watts, uk and europe is 220-240watts so you'll wreck the iron and fuse the house. Just buy a multi-adaptor, tescos or woolies and set it to the right one. You might need a plug adaptor for the pins too. They're all so different.

Depending on where over here is? But in other countries prolly not unless you have a converter. Which you can usually pick up at like a Tescos or something like that. Or if you are staying in a hotel over where ever you are you should ask them first if they have an iron. prolly do if it is a tourist site. Good Luck and lots of fun on your adventure.

The voltage they use in N. America is 110v. Here it is 240v. Unless you have a transformer you will blow it up.
It would be cheaper to buy a new iron.

Smoker,
If you all you did was change the plug, it would be the iron that would be the 'smoker!'

You can get a convertor to drop the line voltage to 110 vac. Get the resistance type because they can handle the current of an iron.

why dont you try putting a new plug on the end insted of buying more stuff. make sure you get the right fuse and put it together properly.
