If a tree fell in the wood you would not know about it and yes it would make a sound.

As a tree falls it makes a vibration and unless there is anyone round to hear that vibration it is therefore impossible to hear the sound.

If people can't hear the combined cries of the starving in Africa because we are not there they are not likely to care about the noise of some poxy tree which might or might not collapse when no else is around.

You might as well ask "what is the sound of one hand clapping." ( it actually makes a barely audible thwacking)

as a sound is a vibration in the air interpreted by the ear then the answer is sort of

The tree falls and causes the vibration but as there is nothing there to interpret the vibration it isnt a bona-fide sound

Yes, you can try it on bathroom when no one in the building, falls in ground you will hear sound with pain. Any one hears or not doesn't matter. Like you are not hearing bombs falling on Middle East from Israel F16, from US F17 you couldn’t hear from here, but sound and unspeakable pain is there.

Its possible to hear it 1/8 mile away. Depending on how tall the tree is or how good your ears are.

yes the sound it makes is a vibration so the sound waves would travel and a creature or person may hear it from miles away it does make a sound but if no one is there to hear it then it makes a noise we didnt hear.
