Then why would he allow young children to be born with horrible disabilities?? And don't tell me it's his will. It's nobody's will that a child should suffer. Why would he do this???

Carol M....how can you possibly blame most birth defects on the "sins of the parents?" Cystic Fibrosis, Down's Syndrome, etc, etc, etc, are GENETIC!! The parents cannot be held responsible!

My apologies to Carol for singling her out. I see many of you believe this is the fault of the parents and their genes. Well, if God created man, then he created the faulty genes right along with them. So I ask again, why would a loving God do this?

Agree. That is why I put away the bible a long time ago.

There is no logical answer for that. I have heard the excuses: it is the fault of man (yet many times man has not caused the particular disease), it is a test (why test an innocent babe or even a good grown-up person), it is to bring the person closer to god (is god really a monster that needs to inflict pain), he will not interfere with us due to free will (what has free will to do with illness), man cannot understand god (uh huh), someone hasn't prayed hard enough (again, the monster theory), you're not a true believer so those prayers fall on deaf ears (what about true believers who have this happen to them), it is to draw you closer to him (hmm, do babies know this and, in reality, wouldn't it drive people away), it's satan (ok, they blame satan so it still doesn't explain god's lack of response), it's due to man's mistakes (not in a lot of cases), man's sins or the sins of the parents (you know if your kid didn't listen to you and you punished him for his transgressions like god does, you'd be thrown in jail for child abuse..so humans are more loving than god) or there is a reason but he hasn't shown it yet (sure). Others say we can't know god, his mind, or his ways (then why worship something you don't know much about and frankly, wouldn't this type of thing make you NOT want to know him; it would be like a friend who never calls, never talks, never lends a hand, never responds, and so either isn't there or doesn't care -- I have a friend like that and now I'm letting go).Yes, the list of reasons I've heard goes on and on. Logically, if god is all loving and does nothing, he is not all powerful. If he is all powerful and does nothing, he is not all loving. If he is neither all powerful nor or all loving, he is the not the god in whom many believe. If he is all powerful and all loving, then he doesn't care; if he has a role in it, he's a monster. People are makng excuses for god and don't really know why. If you believe in god, you can take your choice from the excuses listed. No one can give you the answer because no one really knows why.

But Halloween will be here soon and we'll have some spooky fun ;).

While some disabilities are causes by the parents' actions (drug or alcohol use, poor prenatal health care), most are caused by genetic damage from generations of mutations (through chemical exposure, radiation, etc.).

Never forget that this world is not the end. If this were it, then it would be horrible for people to have to deal with these problems. However, since this is temporary, everybody has to deal with something during life; they can all spend eternity in perfect peace. In the scheme of things, it's just a temporary inconvenience.

From the very beginning God gave us free choice. Because of the choice Adam and Eve made we are all suffering. They chose to act against God's will and we've been paying the price ever since.

Throughout generation we have been making changes to our environment. These changes to the natural world have caused all kinds of disease and yes, birth defects. God didn't do it, we did it to ourselves. Could God make it so bad things would never happen, of course He could. But then what would be the consequences of our choices? What would be the need for even having a God? Have faith that God is not a God that would make bad things happen. He is a loving God, we just need to trust in Him much more as individuals and a society.

Christianity has no solid answer for this one. At least not a solid "satisfying" answer. In order to get a better understanding about the "why" behind this question, you would have to look to religions that accept the idea of reincarnation - or - the need for a particular soul to learn something specific.

Reincarnation - In this case, the soul in question might have done something in a previous life that warranted something devastating to happen in the next.

Education - In this case, the soul might need to learn the full extent of suffering. This soul will actually "want" to be born with a disability in order to know the full impact of a life led this way.

None of this is necessarily the "will" of a deity. It can, in fact, be the result of the desire of the soul.

well the typical answer is even though to us it looks horrible to God its necessary. People usually apply the mystery argument to that situation saying "We can't know God's mind" i agree that an all powerful all knowing all loving God should be able to find a way to accomplish a task without causing so much suffering but who knows maybe if the kid were healthy they'd be the next Hitler.

edit: wow going back through here i can't help but laugh at how brainwashed people sound... people quoting the Bible saying that fornication is the reason they're disabled, not genetics, maybe if they were fornicating more they'd have more options for the gene pool. saying that the child brought it upon themselves by being born apparently (stupid kid wanting to breathe...how silly) enough of my rant...

I believe that it is a number of diff things... However, what I believe most is that God doesn't inflict these per se but by our negligence in standing on the devil and praying over our kids before and after they are conceive... The devil will do all types of things to you and have you blaming God....If you are not deeply deeply connected to God you will come upon these type of problems but unless you are in agreement with God you wont know how to get the Devil away from you and your family and he will strike you with all types of ailments... And further more.... remember when Jesus healed the blind man...and someone asked him why was the boy born blind and Jesus said that no had sinned but that the works of God should be revealed through him.... Dont just look at these situations in a bad light... think of Job all the stuff the devil out him through and in the end he had testimony of God's will that God's is gracious! He had more after that ordeal with satan than he had when he began.... I said all that to say... ask God! Perhaps it is in his will but not maliciously.... he is just working thorough people but if you get offended and get mad at him then you wont know how to rectify the problem and will continue to be ill.

Did he?
Put the blame on the parents who had bad genes.

God sometimes allows evil to happen because ultimately He will draw good from evil, this ability is what makes him God.
We cannot always see this.
But take for example the fall in Eden this ulimatly lead to the salvation through Jesus and a much better end then was intended from the beginning.

Give me an answer, but don't give me that answer....

That is like trying to solve an equation with nothing but variables...

There was a child who was born blind. All his life he could not see. One day he heard of a great healer was going to be in town so he had his friends help him to the gate and he sat and waited. In a short time, he heard people coming and heard them gather round him talking of him. His sight was restored by Jesus. He went and told people about it.

I think that the point is there is a point to things and you do not know what they are nor can a person predict the myriad of ways inn which things can work out.

God is allowing bad things to happen, but he is never the cause. The Bible says that he cares for us."Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you."
It was never God's will that mankind suffer in any way. Remember that he created our first parents Adam and Eve with perfect bodies and health and they were to live forever . He did create them with free-will or the ability to make choices. He did not want people to be like robots, but wanted humans to be able to show love and be loved. Sadly though, Adam and Eve sinned against God and thus lost their right to live forever and remain perfect.Their bodies began to slowly deteriorate and eventually they grew old and died. Because we are the offspring of Adam and Eve, we inherited sin from them and therefore, we too grow old and die. Imperfections in our bodies cause us to have diseases and disabilities. Satan the devil is the real cause of all our suffering. He tricked our first parents into disobeying God and he tries to turn people against God even more today. God promises to soon destroy Satan and all who follow his way of thinking. He promises to end all suffering, sickness and even death itself. Please read these verses in the Bible and they will give you comfort and you will then see what God promises for the earth and all his creation. Revelation 21:4, Isaiah 35:5 &6, John 5:28 & 29, Isaiah 33:24, Psalms 37:9-11 and Psalm 72:16

I can't answer a question for God, but I can attempt to answer it with MY understanding. I believe that children who are born with disabilities can be considered a "curse" brought down from generations of disobedience, disbelief, negative practices, etc. Let me explain. We get punished for whatever we do. It may not be right away; it may not even be in our lifetime, but we do get punished. The punishment can be in the form of "generational curses". For example, if you, in this lifetime decide to do things that break the Ten Commandments or that go against God in a big way, you, your children, grandchildren, and/or great grandchildren, etc. COULD end up being punished for what you have done.

Sometimes the curses skip generations and sometimes they run straight through for 10 generations. The BIBLE tells us about bringing curses upon ourselves for generations. In this string of "cursing", a time could come where 1 person in a generation can choose to follow God to His "standards" and in turn, God could bless THEM and stop the generational curses at their point. That's why some of us come from a history of substance abuse, mental illnesses, physical illnesses, etc. and find that we or a few others have NOT fallen subject. Either YOU, or someone from a generation before you "broke" the curse. This holds especially true for witchcraft and similar arts. (generational curses)

To add, to your comment, "it's nobody's will..." unfortunately some things that happen ARE due to "our will". Examples of this are smoking or drinking/doing drugs during pregnancy, having multiple sex partners without protection (before or after conception), not eating right or taking care of yourself during pregnancy and not going for regular prenatal check ups - TO NAME A FEW.

When a woman does so much as 1 of these things, she is TAKING A CHANCE with her child's life. She may not think so, but she is! So, to make EXCUSES for our behavior like, "my ... never went to the doctor and she had a healthy baby", or "...smoked weed while she was pregnant and her baby came out fine" is not the answer. The answer is if you want things to turn out right for you and all YOUR generations to come, YOU have to make a conscious decision to "get right with God" OR YOU and YOUR DESCENDANTS MAY suffer the consequences!

This answer is not meant to say ANYTHING negative regarding people with children that have disabilities. It is just an attempt to answer your question in a way you might understand. NO DISRESPECT intended to any "readers".
