You can go ahead and consecrate them now. I don't see any purpose in waiting. You might want to reconsecrate them as part of your ceremony. I generally reconsecrate my sacred items (and myself, and smudge the house) whenever there's a major change in my life, to mark endings and new beginnings. Like spring cleaning, you know.

As in all things ritual: The important thing is what you believe, and what you find power in. If you want to consecrate the tools, do so. Consider it a stepping stone towards your dedication. If you want to wait, then wait, and view the act of consecrating the tools as the culmination of your dedication.

Always remember that it is you who have the powers, not the tools. In all my years that I practiced (I no longer do, but I keep in touch with the community), the only thing I ever consecrated was a long string of staves that were burned when their purpose was finished or the event they were consecrated for was over. Everything else about it was ME.

I always check things out before I pass judgement. I cast a
money spellTbook said to release any excess energy. Or it will
come back to haunt you. Which I didn't do, and 3 days later my bed started shaking.
The other day I did a banishing, just trying to remember how
to do it. It was an earth banishing, using the pentagram, but I
did it toward the west which is water. A minute later, a heard
a sound like a .22 going off. My coworkers heard it too.
After years of study and personal experience. I have concluded
that magic is a crutch. The tools, only extensions of your spiritual power within. It is an easy way to gaining the use of ones
spiritual power, and it has it's price.
Ever hear of Karma? There is karma in the spirit world too, that will have to be worked out with beings we abuse. Read Ruth
Montgomereys "THE WORLD BEYOND". It talks about how
our spirits have to learn to break away from the planetary
spheres in spirit.
Paul said, "Now that you know God, why turn to the weak and beggarly elements. Do you again want to be in bondage?"
People who try to control spiritual forces in our world, through
astrology and witchcraft. Only bind themselves more to those things.
Don't stop learning to use your spirit. Make your pleas to the Universe, but ask that our Creators will be done. Not ours. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Wicked people use knowledge to gain control over others.
Righteous peole use knowledge to gain self-control.

When you consecrate a tool, you are setting it apart for magical or religious purposes. In other words, you are declaring to yourself and your gods that this particular tool, or set of tools, will only be used for magical or religious purposes. You possess intent before dedication, so waiting serves no purpose IMHO.

BTW, I have been a legally ordained Pagan minister since 1995.

I say go ahead and consecrate your tools! I've never heard of needing to wait until your year and a day ceremony to do that. Besides, if you wish, you can always re-cleanse and consecrate them again at your dedication if you feel you must.

The year and a day thing is only used in Wicca that I know of. Even then it is a rule of thumb and not a hard and fast rule. If you are doing some type of self-dedication it doesn't apply to you and you can do whatever you want whenever you want.

If you are going to use your tools you need to consecrate them now. You don't have to wait and you shouldn't.
