The symptoms of parkinson's disease can be controlled, at least initially, with medication. There are a large number of drugs available and various combinations can be used. However, as time goes on the drugs become less effective. In extreme cases a relatively new kind of surgery, called Deep Brain Stimulation, can be used to control the effects of Parkinson's. This can be very effective at symptom control in many cases.

However, there is no cure at present for Parkinson's and the disease is progressive, so that all treatments will eventually fail, although it can take many years for this to happen.

There is a very active international research program in Parkinson's disease, and it may be that more effective therapies, and maybe a cure, will be found in the not too distant future. But it is certainly not around the corner, I'm afraid.

I disagree with smashguy. You can not at this point in time recover from Parkinsins, however, as the nurse said it can be controled with the proper medication. I have worked with Parkinsins affected people before as a nurse assistant and know far more about the illness than smashguy. He sounds like he is giving you false information.

Recovered? After proper treatment, the patient with Parkinson's can get back to a propre control over that patient's body.

There is no cure to Parkinson's but symptoms can be managed and controlled, to an extent, with medication. It is essential that your father be treated by a good MD, expert in Parkinson's.
This is a very sad disease -- best wishes to you and your father.

Unfortuantely no. Parkinsons cannot be cured.

However, the side effects can be managed. I would suggest you talk to your doctor for aid in improving your father's quality of life.
