Yoga and meditation

I had panic attacks and anxiety and went on a very low dose of an antidepressant to get me through the worst part of it at the beginning. But I also see a therapist and that helped a lot more in my opinion. I made some huge changes in my life that helped as well. I cut out caffeine and alcohol for a while and made sure I got into bed before 10:00 every night. I made sure I got some exercise every day. I practiced breathing routines and did yoga for relaxation. I used a journal to record things that were making me anxious. I also stopped watching the news every evening because it would get me upset. I watched comedies instead, because it felt better to laugh. These things helped a lot. I don't still do all those things every day- but if I'm having a bad week or something, I go right back into the routine because I know it makes me feel better. The medication was just to get me to be able to function normally because when I first started having panic attacks I was afraid to even leave my house. But once I started working on the other stuff, I didn't need the medication anymore.

Deep breathing is probably the only thing, I know what they're like horrible, until I knew what they were I thought I was having a heart-attack, also counselling maybe work out your triggers and develop a strategie to overcome them. I know an anxiety attack is triggered for me if I'm tired, having trouble sleeping and I start thinking about death, and when I have an anxiety attack I really feel as though I am dying, when the breathing doesn't work, I get up and do something, watch tv, read a book or something crafty, anything to occupy my mind. Hope it helps, good luck.

Either go to a Dr and get anti anxiety drugs or try taking some of the over the counter remedies for anxiety. I think Kava Kava and St. John's Wort are some good ones. I recommend seeing a Dr though. They have lots of medicines to treat anxiety. If you are having attacks then its serious so its best to see a Dr.

I am on Zoloft for GAD and it seems to help, but there are time when I still get bad anxiety and I will take a muscle relaxer when needed, but I do like to try natural approaches first such as sitting down and doing some deep breathing, playing a game, crocheting, or even answering stuff on this site. When all else fails I take some Simply Sleep and knock myself out, cause when i wake up i feel alot better.

Doctor says no cure for anxiety attacks. It's only yourself who could cure it. In case anxiety attacks you, condition your mind to relax, sit down, breath slowly, inhale from your nose and exhale from your mouth. Think of the good things you have done. And the most important is DON'T PANIC since anxiety attacks will not kill you.

Klonopin can help reduce the effects of an anxiety attack but won't necessarily cure them.

It is not mandatory that you see a psychiatrist for all medicines that help with mental illnesses. A general practioner can help as well.
