Flies do a good job of breaking down stuff like faeces. Without them we'd be knee deep within a very short time. As to whether God made them in the first place, asking an atheist is a bad idea.

God Created everything and everything for a purpose. You can read the theory of evolution, the theory of the Big Bang the theory of....etc. etc. But they are not Facts. God only deals in Facts and Truth.
The problem that is all important is your relationship with God. The problem with everyone is Sin. I am a Born-Again-Christian, and have been in life or death experiences in the Armed Forces as well as civilian life. I suggest you seek Jesus Christ, ask Him sincerely to come into your life and God will provide you with all your answers. You have to have that personal experience with Christ to enjoy the benifits of living for Him and with Him. The Holy Spirit will guide you through your life and keep you safe, but will also give you the understanding to know what is Truth.
Everything in the Bible is coming to a head and Christ will return soon, don't be left out, get into pointless discussions, join a Bible Study group, there is a world out there that needs to be told about Christ. Because many people have distorted the truth and confused many about religion. I don't see my Christian Faith as being a religion, but rather a way of life, ending in Eternal Life with God in Heaven.
Just remember that the greatest scientific minds in the world cannot explain why, "A Black cow, that eat's Green grass, produses White milk that makes Yellow butter" Just let go....and let God....!

Flies have no purpose. They evolved in such a way that the way they were was the one most likely to cause there to be more flies.

All insects are made to pollinate the plants and the plants in turn leaves out Oxygen which is very essential for human existence.

He made them so they would irritate horses, and then the horses would slap their tails at them. This makes a sound, so they can't sneak up on us unsuspecting humans. So, god made flies so we would not be startled by sneaky horses.

Yes - I've got one flying around me right now, and it's going to DIE ! - although I'm not so sure about the God nonsense.

flies help the ecosystem.... they eat poop- along with other things. btw- i know some people who are worse than flies.
