I went to MEPS 8 years ago and got permanently disqualified for my ears and hearing. However, a few months ago i talked to a recruiter which told me that it would be no problem getting me in. I was a little skeptical, but I lost 45 pounds and went to MEPS any ways. I passed all the test for the exception of the weight. I was 4 pounds over. The MEPS doctors told me that all i had to do was lose the weight and im in. the thing is when i went to the physical they didnt even look in my ears, they didnt look in my mouth, nor did they even check any of the hernia repairs and scars that i have on my stomach. i remember the first time i went to MEPS and the checked everything. Is this unusual? I mean, since i was permanently disqualified i would have thought they would have been all over me because of my ears. but they didnt even check them. so i guess if they told me that all i have to do is lose the four pounds and every thing else will take care of itself. Right? oristhereawayicouldfail?

i took the hearing test. i did EVERYTHING they were testing for. they told me to lose the weight and then the next time i come in i will reweigh and then talk to the counsiler.
i also got my hearing corrected. they told me that i passed everything. i was just wondering why they didnt check in my ears. I haed to go in and talk to the regular doctor and the main doctor. they asked me a few questions signed the paperwork and told me that all i have to do is lose the weight.

I brought a doctors note in, that said that my hearing and my ears are fine and that it shouldnt affect any of my duties. could the reason that they didnt check anything be because i had a doctors note and ALL of my medical records? Could they take the specialists word for it?

Lose your four pounds and try it again. If they cleared you medically at MEPS, you are ready to go. If you have any problems with your hearing down the road, however, it may be hard to prove it was due to military service UNLESS you encounter an IED while downrange. If you choose an MOS where you are exposed to long periods of loud noises, your hearing will more than likely decrease. If you don't go downrange and aren't exposed to loud noises for a long period of time, do not try to claim military duties contributed to your hearing damage. If you do, the VA doctors dig through your medical records with a fine toothed comb, both miltary and civilian (since a copy of your civilian medical records are in with your military), they will find out that you had hearing problems in the past and most likely deny your claim for compensation. Good luck to you

Haven't you already asked this question??

If the recruiter noted that your hearing would be fine and your brought in the doctors note, then MEPS will usually clear you. However, don't try to later file a claim against the military for any hearing loss. You're already starting on the downside as far as that goes. So, lose the 4 pounds and go back to see what happens.

Good luck!!

If your recruiter submitted documentation saying that your ears were fixed, then this could be the reason for you not having to go though an extensive review. You may have required a medical waiver, and if that was approved, you would not have an lenghtly stay back in medical. Good luck.

I had hearing problems too. I got in on a waiver. Bottom line, if they want you in, you'll get in.

And, yes, you will lose hearing after your first IED. I did. Badly.

You will lose your hearing after you go to Iraq and encounter your first IED anyway.
