There are two methods to process x-rays automatically..

1. Is that the machine itself is a new digital radiography x-ray device and uses a special phosperous plate with like crystals that capture light instead of film to capture the image and then a laser discharges the light to read and transfer the information about the light to a computer which displays the image and then can be viewed on a monitor. This technology is called DR (Digital Radiologrphy) Permanant plate. Another plate method is CR (Computed Radiography) a plate that is used instead of a film cassette on older analog x-ray machines and then placed inside a device that reads the phosperous plate that is connected to a computer.

2. You can also do it the old fashion way and print the first film and then put the film into a digital film scanner that works much like a paper scanner but at much higher resolution and is fda approved for film scanning. The film scanner is then hooked to a computer which allows viewing of the image.

3. Depending on the software used to view the image .. images can be distributed variety of ways, reprinted to laser paper or film, burned on a cd, or viewed over the interenet.

Radiographs can be developed in a number of ways.

By hand, dipping them in and out of tanks.

Mechanically where a series of rollers take the radiographs through a series of tanks.

Digitally which can be two methods, one where the "film" is actually a sensor and thus immediately transmits the image to a screen or where you use phospher plates which go through a special machine which reads the results and puts an image onto a screen.

I've taken xrays that were digital and it's cool. If it wasn't a perfect shot you can re-do it right away.

I've also done xrays the old fashion way and it seems to take forever to process them.
