You may noy be able to bring vials of holy water in your carry-on. And nothing that can misconscrued (sp) as a weapon.

Life is the main religion.... worship the "LIFE" . Do a good job for needy peoples.
Feed the hungry peoples after your return .....like so many others jobs you can do. What for carrying only the books & idols...... do it for the good world.

Unless they look like weapons and/or explosives, I can't see why not.
(The TSA's apparently allowing knitting needles in carry-ons, but it's still a good idea to make sure they're small and not metal... and holding some knitting.)
