Of course there is Gabriel too, but it seems Michael is very popular. What about Raphael and some of the others?

Well Michael seems to have been some kind of Angel Commander or something. I actually notice more references to Gabriel then to Michael. Raphael and Uriah were not mentioned in the Canonized Bible so they aren't popular with us Protestants. I think Raphael is mentioned in the Book of Tobit in the Apocrypha but the only reference I recall seeing to Uriah was in the Psedopigraphical book of Enoch. The Archangels were mentioned more in the old Jewish literature because Angels names were considered powerful and were even used in preChristian exorcisms.

There are two very good reasons why we hear more about Michael:

1) God appointed Michael as Israel's guardian (see Daniel 12:1). Since Israel stands at the center of God's map of the world, Michael is mentioned within several key end-times prophesies: Daniel 10:13 and 21, and Rev. 12:7. He is also mentioned at Jude 1:9, which pertains to Moses' early bodily resurrection at Jesus' transfiguation.

2) At least one cult claims he was Jesus prior to His human birth (this is unscriptural).

The only archangels mentioned in the Bible are Michael and Lucifer (who was a cherub, the highest archangel); Gabriel is never directly called an archangel. Others have been added by tradition, but are not in the Bible.

Peace.

The prefix "arch" meaning "chief" or "principle" implies that there is only one archangel, the chief angel;in the Scriptures,"archangel" is never found in the plural
The only archangel mentioned in the Bible is Michael.
The angel Gabriel is never referred to as 'archangel'.
No other angels are named. There is no reference in the Scirptures to a 'Raphael' or any other named angels

Because Michael is most well-known and his name is mention the most times in Jewish and Christian scripture. He's the leader of the angelic host (though some sources say that's Metatron but that's another story) and he's supposedly the one who drove Lucifer out of Heaven when he rebelled so he's hailed as the greatest among the angels. Michael has long been regarded as the angel who protects, which people like. They like a protector. Gabriel is more known as a messenger, and Raphael is a healer--which people like too, but they like protection more. They like to feel safe, and Michael embodies that. Let's face it we live in a war-dominated culture where the strongest and most warrior-like people thrive and Michael is the epidemy of that.

We learn from Jude that Michael had the post of archangel. In fact, he was the archangel, since no other archangel is mentioned in the Bible, nor does the Bible use “archangel” in the plural. “Archangel” means “Chief of the angels.”

Because according to those Christian religions which actually encourage in depth study of the Bible instead of placing blind faith in what the clerics tell them, Michael was the heavenly name of Jesus; Jesus was the earthbound manifestation of Michael.
