That's just the medical term for high blood pressure. It's a good idea to have yours checked periodically by your doctor. Your ideal blood pressure is 120/70. The top number is the diastolic pressure, and the bottom number is the systolic. That coincides with your heartbeats. If it is extremely high, (anything over 145/90 is considered high) he or she may prescribe medication to keep it under control. Some of the things you can do for yourself, though, are reducing sodium (salt) from your diet, getting a lot of exercise or physical activity, and learning to relax and not getting too stressed. Hypertension does not have any symptoms, so many people have it and don't realize it until they get their blood pressure checked. However, high blood pressure is very insidious -- in other words, it can sneak up on you and eventually cause serious complications, such as heart trouble, strokes, diabetes and kidney problems, so it's nothing you want to ignore. Keeping it under control is simple if you follow your doctor's instructions and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Hypertension means high Blood Pressure.
Someone diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, means either one or both of the followings are high:
1. Systolic blood pressure is consistently over 140 (systolic is the "top" number of your blood pressure measurement, which represents the pressure generated when the heart beats)
2. Diastolic blood pressure is consistently over 90 (diastolic is the "bottom" number of your blood pressure measurement, which represents the pressure in the vessels when the heart is at rest)
There are two type of Hypertension:
1. "Essential Hypertension" which usually is caused by genetic factor, environmental factor, poor dieting, or stress.
2. "Secondary Hypertension" is usually caused by underlying other medical problems, such as adrenal gland tumors, Cushing's syndrome, kidney disorders, use certain type of Medications, Oral Contraceptives, Wilms' tumor, and/or Radiation Therapy (For complete list of other diseases check the following reference URL).
Hypertension is controllable with long life monitoring under physician care, as the treatment may need routine adjustment.
Treatment:
Depending on which kind of hypertension you have, the treatment may include either by dieting and exercise, and/or medications that include "diuretics, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, giotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), or alpha blockers. Medications such as hydralazine, minoxidil, diazoxide, or nitroprusside may be required if the blood pressure is very high."
Complications:
Kidney failure, stroke, brain damage, loss of vision, are among some of the anticipated complications. Thus it is important that the treatment to be monitored by a physician.

hypertension is another word for high blood pressure. You can control it through diet, exercise, reduction of stress, and if it's not able to be controlled that way then there are meds out there you can take for it.
See your doc if ur blood pressure doesn't calm down, or if you feel dizzy a lot or almost pass out.
Good Luck}}}}

hypertension is high blood pressure. controlling it is usually done by a doctor. some things you can do is 1)avoid salt...limit your intake to 2T or less per day. 2)walk. don't overdo it, but walk. every day. 3)talk to your doctor if you haven't already! elevation of blood pressure can cause permanent vascular damage in a matter of minutes. take this seriously...this is your heart and brain we're talking about!

yup its high blood pressure. For a start you should consult a doctor who might give u medication to control your hypertension. Also avoid foods high in salt such as canned food, ham, bacon, sausages, fast food, salted snacks (nuts and chips), pickled vegetables and salted fish. Avoid foods where 'sodium' appears early in the list of ingredients, as this suggests a high content of salt. avoid monosodium glutamate too!

seperate the words & you have the meaning, hyper as in too much, & tension. relaxation of the mind & body is the cure for which excercises are there in yoga, tai chi, & various other natural sources. Doctors would provide medicines which inhibit the feelings of anxiety but dont really solve the problem
