I will be looking for volunteers to help out with the Milton Keynes Christmas Day Party for the Elderly.
We spend Christmas day feeding and entertaining between 100 and 200 elderly people who would otherwise be spending Christmas by themselves. We will need drivers and volunteers to help the guests, serve food and drink, wash up and the like.
If you live in the area and fancy doing something better than sitting in front of a TV, please contact me.

Sunflower, if you find TV better than this party, that is up to you, and I am sorry if I offended you. Personally, I am looking forward to partying with people who love to enjoy themselves and are great fun to be with. Maybe you get more out of TV.

What a great idea. It's good to see that there are some people out there that think ofothers before themselves.
That said, the same goes for those who feed the homeless at Christmas and my only problem here is, what about the other days of the year?
Yes it's great to give some support to these people at the time of year that they should be surrounded by family, but one day a year you spoil them rotten, then go back to your normal life the next day. Volunteers are needed all year round, but at tleast this would give people the opportunity to see how some people have to live, and it might make them think about others more & what they could do to help.
I do hope that you are inundated with volunteers (I don't live anywhere near Milton Keynes though).

I agree with SUNFLOWER....If your asking for volunteers then do exactly that, ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS. Do not assume that people sit around their houses doing nothing but watching TV. As a matter of fact I get together with my family whom I rarely see. Its our time to catch and reminisce on our lives. Maybe you think that people sit around watching TV because that is what motivated you to volunteer. Still not a nice way to ask for anything. it almost seems as if you have no manners or consideration of others feelings. I hope that you find the necessary volunteers for your project and wish you a merry Christmas in September.

ok.. well trying for best answer 2 from you
I have no tv, i have no car, and i dont celebrate christmas, as my parents made the event something, which i no longer wish to remember, 1 year, i burnt down the daisy chains, in protest.
SO, i have nothing better to do, but well, i dont like to be around spirited or happy people on christmas, i prefer to get in some sleep.
I do hope this changes when i have kids.

I live in Ireland and this year is to by my second Christmas in a row when i can spend the day with my family. i'm a nurse you see! Used to work full time and now i only bank reason why Christmas has now become such a precious family time to me. But! I can imagine how hard it is for you to find volunteers on Christmas day ... I've never worked full staff on this day! Always short staff!!! Good luck!

Sounds like something I would enjoy. Most my family is many many miles away. I doubt you are near me though. I worked at a nursing home when I was 16 and loved it! Those people were great.

Why is it that when people need volunteers that they have to down grade the other persons life before asking for help "something better than sitting in front of a TV." I don't think that that was necessary.

It's a fabulous idea. I love alternative Christmas celebrations! But I live nowhere near you. Best wishes and Godspeed to you and all of your volunteers.

I do, like seeing people show respect for God and Christ by
not putting an ancient fertility symbol, a symbol of male sexuality,
the "christ"mas tree, in thier church or home.
Read Jeremiah 10 if you dare! I bet all the people complaining
haven't even read it.
